Hi all, wondering what the widest tyres that can be fit to a mag are. I have ROH 15 inch mags.
Cheers.

Depends on the width of the rim

I have 18" wheels but the width is much narrower than a Commodore or Falcon. I would have loved that real fat look. Sorry can't remember off the top of my head the specs.

Does the mag have its width stamped on it?

I am running 245/45/17's I believe you couldn't go much wider on the front. The mags are 7 inches wide. It is all going to depend on the offset of your mags

I have 15 inch ROH mags and can't afford to upgrade at this stage. So I can go a bit wider in the tyre, which will help with traction, a little bit more rubber on the road. Has anyone found a certain brand of tyre to be more sticky then another?

For grip for the $, there is little beating Falken. The 452 is the pick, though you may be limited size-wise in trying to get these. Another high grip option is in the Bridgestone range. Prior to going Bridgestone RE050As on 18's I was using Bridestone Grid III's on 16's. Lots of grip, progressive breakaway, not too exe. I believe these have been replaced in name by the Adrenaline series, but that the carcass construction and tread pattern is much the same as the GIII. The daddy of them all according to both local and international tyre tests is the current Goodyear Eagle F1. Getting a 15 in these could be an issue too though, plus there are more exe than Falken.

the Falkens may grip like nothing else, but they don't last long.
I got Falken 452s (http://falken.com.au/tyres/passenger-FK452.html) on my 18x8s and they lasted about 10k km.
then I picked up some Bridgestone Potenza GIIIs (http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/treads/gIII.aspx) and they're about shot now, but that's after about 35k km (including a full day at the track before I got track rims + tyres).
the Jetta came with Bridgestone Potenza RE050As (http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/treads/re050a.aspx) and they lasted about 45k km, then they were replaced with the new Adrenalins Potenza RE001s (http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/treads/Adrenalin.aspx). they might be a bit more expensive than the Falkens, but they last about 4 times as long (and aren't 4 times expensive!!).
I'll be getting Adrenalins on the Magna when it eventually gets back on the road. they even come in the right load rating!! :D
cheers,

They do make them in a lot of sizes though.
And in the latest wheels magazine they got hold of a new test tyre, the Eagle F1 Assymetric, which is supposed to be replacing the current Eagle F1. I would have thought they would have both assymetric and directional though, and the assymetric has a really boring tread pattern.
