I was reading about that turbo magna in adelaide and it said that he has a stage 2 shift kit in his 4 speed tiptronic gearbox...
it has me thinking - what modifications are available for our transmissions (particularly the 4 speed tippy)

have looked into this, for serious power up there is nothing out there. if you are going over about 35% power gain the only reliable option is a manual. the 5 sp tippy is no stronger or reliable than the 4 speed auto and having your auto rebuilt tougher is way way expensive because there is no demand out there for kits be developed.

I agree entirely and its well proven the manuel transmission is super strong and will take a beating.
I'm sure Malcolm could back that up hey 8) 8) :D :D

I'm studying the Service Manual at the moment to see if it's possible to wire tiptronic buttons to the standard 4sp box, based on The Verada 4sp tiptronic.

I haven't finished reading it yet, so It's still 50/50 chance at the moment. :?

From what I have read, it is cheaper to put in a manual box than make a std auto a tip auto......

just realised the original post said there is on the SA turbo magna a stage 2 shift kit on a tippy auto???, thats ridiculous-tippy changes anytime u hit it and the change is instant. i say he has his hand on it- not his short shifter either.

Well the rewiring of the extra tiptronic buttons seems simple enough - just not too of...
1. ECU firmware (software) differences. Different Part Numbers?
2. The extent of the mechnical-based auto-control-cable that goes from the gear selector to under the hood. I believe the D/N/R/P positions are directly effected by it, but not too sure if L/1/2 positions are effected by it too. Or are these gears selected electronically, via the ECU. :?:
