Just bought one of those el cheapo 7" double din touch screen units off ebay for about $500 with the built in bluetooth and gps. Getting it installed early next week. I also got hold of a reversing camera and digital set top box to attach to it.
Any one else have one of these units and can tell me what they are like? I know that some problems have been had with the Eonen brand (but then I have also heard their after sales service is pretty good) but this unit isn't that brand.

my mates buying one of these for his magna next week.
but he is getting one without the gps software for 250-300 coz he has already got tomtom on a sd card so he can use that.
they are a good idea, all in one. but weather they'll work fine and last is the question.
good luck and be sure to post pics when you have it installed.

i agree except for the fact that if your on a long trip and u need directions and the passengers want to watch a movie. at least with the "gps unit stuck to the window" you can do both. but how often do u go on long trips haha

my mate had one which was rubbish, everything stopped working over time, wouldnt read cds first, then wouldnt read dvds, then the SD card slot stopped working, but this was 2+ years ago
I got one of the single din once with the smaller screen. i have to say its not perfect but at the end of the day everything still works on it, it just is a bit temermental, like today the remote wont work, yesterday it did but the volume buttons on the H/U didnt...now they do...its just random it seams lol
but at the end of the day im really happy with mine, it cos like $400 and i put it in myself. for the price i would do it again

i had issues with tomtom maps, it would run but it wouldn't flow smoothly, it was well all over the place, apparently according to the seller, i had to change my GPS antenna to a better frequency one or something like that.
i'm using route 66 atm and i don't mind it at this stage, i even loaded "safety camera" poi
onto it.
mine had a gap of about 1 or 2 mm on each side of my centre console.

I had the unit installed by an auto electrician mate, all up cost including fitting was $1050.00, this included the price of the head unit, analogue antenna, digital antenna, digital set top box, reversing camera, usb extension cables and additional switches to operate the existing radio antenna.
The unit has about 1 or 2 mm gap around it but my mate said it was best that it had so as not to jam when the screen activates.
The bluetooth function works well except that i am still trying to find out how to work and set the volume on it.
Analogue TV is ok a bit scratchy but this is due to the window film and metallic edge on the rear windscreen where the boosted antenna is mounted, dependant on signal strength the picture can be quite good.
Digital tv antenna is mounted at the front of the vehicle on the front windscreen above the rear vision mirror, it works brilliantly when it picks up a signal. This was a HiTV horizontal bumber antenna which can be mounted outside the vehicle and hidden from view, got it from Tonkins in gouger st.
The set top box is mounted inside the centre console out of site, with the remote lead on the side of the console.
GPS is route66, I did try to install TomTom but could not and then found it had jammed the workings of the wince program and used all available memory,I had to disconnect the car battery as even the soft reset on the unit would not fix this, In hind sight I should have had a switch on the dash to be able to cut power to the unit whenever needed.
Had to reset the vehicles computer because of this.
On firing it back up the Navigation menu was in chinese and it took me a good hour to find the right place to alter it back to english, the manual is a bit wanting and not too clear.
Dvd works well as does the radio, the reversing cam is wired to the reverse gear and the unit turns on automatically in reverse and displays the view.
The unit activates the radio antenna in all modes so I had a switch installed so that if i was not using the radio the antenna was lowered.

A bit of an update. At the moment everything is working Aok however a couple of times i have had to reset the unit due to it forgetting how to work a specific function I.e. the screen not going up or down or the touch screen not responding.
I put this down to me fiddling with it. (Quite a bit)
I would suggest that if you install one of these, an isolating switch on the dash would be a good idea as I have had to disconnect the battery twice so far due to the unit running out of memory.
The only way to fix it was to stop power to it. This was caused by me trying to install TomTom on it.
After all my stuffing around i finally got TomTom to work on this unit, runs without jumping, v6.00 (7370) map version v675.1431, used a baud rate for the gps of 9600 and gps port setting to get the internal gps to operate....far better graphics than route66 imo. Route66 uses a baud rate of 4800.

hmm my install was free, just did it myself... i wasn't gonna pay an installation fee that was gonna cost equal to or more than my unit. i am gonna play around with an analog antenna and a dvb-t set top box. see how mine fairs, i have a similar unit to yours. i'm struggling to get signal in my area
