I think its just the way their designed and the manufacturer, all manufacturers have different ideas on what works. some believe in cross drilling and some don't while some believe in the combination of the two. Mine travel the other way ie the bottom of the slot leads the top of the slot.
All I know is mine stops better and faster than stock.

I cut mine into the stock rotors with an angle grinder... stops pretty good, just a bit shaky.

i think that the slots are positioned like that so that the gases and dust given off during braking are forced away from the centre of the rotor to keep it cool and clean.
I'm not sure if most of you actually what causes brake fade?
Here's a quick explanation:
When you brake, the pads and rotors get hot, when they get hot, the pads give off gases, when those gases can't escape quick enough, the gases force the pads away from the rotor, thus causing brake fade.

I thought brake fade was when you paint them purple and then when you park at work they get dusty and you cant see the purple as well so you have to hose them off then you can stop quicker because your brakes look better
EDIT: :P

My understanding was the slots are there to shave away a bit of brake pad each time so that way the rotor is always getting fresh brake pad - not glazed crap

its designed to help reduce glazing not get rid of it totally

that and to disperse gases that are produced when braking.
