just wondering what people have as their rear speakers. i replaced the stock 6x9's but i think it would sound better with some splits or something considering i have a sub and don't need the bass of the 6x9's. i've been thinking about this for a while but haven't got around to do anything about it.

any thoughts?

i got a pair of boschman 6x9s from altronics - 350watt RMS each! only problem is i bump my head on the massive magnet if i'm fiddling in my boot lol
6x9s have bass but not 'sub' bass...

either buy yourself a cheap set of 6 1/2" coaxial speakers
or dont have anything at all

you could also try the splits too if you want

I've never seen the point of putting splits in the back. If you fade the rear speakers out so you can barely hear them from the front, does it really matter if they're 6.5" splits or 6x9s"? At least with 6x9s, they're a factory fit, no effort required....

meh, 300w Xplod 6x9's in the back. Nothing too big, thats what the 1300w sub is for.

More like 60WRMS from the speakers and 380WRMS from the sub.

I have a set of Focal 6x9's in the back, faded out so far that the cone barely gets excited by voltage passing through it. Rears are a waste of time.

yea it just sounds like the bass the 6x9's put out get distorted sometimes while the higher ends are fine. i don't need the bass from them because i have a sub and was wondering if anyone noticed/done anything different in the back.

in saying this they r **** sony 6x9's so i'm deciding whether to replace them with better 6x9's, try and put some 6 1/2's in or just fading em out

Don't bother spending money on them, just fade them out. Spend money where you can hear it, the front stage.

They may be cheapies but they sound good enough for me, and I was too lazy to find the RMS, thats why I said the peak :P

Sony speakers don't magically turn into Focals :bowrofl:

Jks, I know what you mean.

Millert85 just has empty holes in his parcel shelf :)

Hey we've got Sony 6x9"s in the rear of the TR and they're fantastic.....in comparison to the stock audio

They're not bad, any 6x9"s really will do the job as long as they can handle the power your giving them, run them on high pass and they'll work just fine.

Don't worry mate, I started off with a full Sony set, then moved on to higher end Sony gear. Then I learned my lesson and bought some MTX speakers. Then a JBL GTO sub, and then another one :P Then an Eclipse head unit... Thennn some Focal speakers and Infinity subwoofers.

Agree'd on that note, they obliterate the stockies.

I plan on making some custom pods for a set of jaycar splits in the rear (to block off the air movement from the subs in the boot, and mounting the tweeters in the rear pillars. I like having rear and front stage together, as sacrilege as that is in the audio world :P.

Couldn't you just high-pass them at something higher than normal (say, 200hz)?

I also have JBL GTO 937 6x9's. Great speakers for the price. They sound awsome amped, have fooled people that I had a sub. They were slightly difficult to install due to the torsion bars in the boot hitting the massive magnet.

Before i got a sub, i ran these low passed. Now i have a sub i run them on a highpass @ 100hz

Im also toyin with the idea of rear splits. Everyone should have the privelige of good quality audio in my car :D

But more importantly i have a sweet idea for the install lol

MTX X Thunder Series 6x9's. Excellent speakers, they pump hard even with the standard head unit, provides deep bass and crisp treble

Infinity Reference series 6x9s

not bad speakers, mine are only a for bit of rear fill though running off an Apline Vseries amp

Alright, what model headunit do you have? If its got high pass that'll be fine, otherwise you might want to look into an amplifier of sorts for the speakers.

it's an alpine CDE - 9881

Thats got a high pass filter so work out how to use it using the dreaded manual or something

Its selectable between 80/120/160Hz and off, I'm no expert but I'd be setting the high pass to 120Hz and the Low Pass on the subs amplifier to 120-125Hz. That way the sub isn't trying to do anything the speakers are, and the speakers aren't trying to produce anything the sub should be doing.

Should solve your bass problem from the 6x9"s. Do that and see what you think of the factory speakers, they may well be suitable once you've tuned the bass out of them, if not, go get some JBL GTO-937's from Strathies or something ($124 I think) and run them with the HPF, should sound good then.

JBL Actually own Infinity (oR was it the other way around goddam it)
When i was going to purchase a set of these years ago $300~ish i was directed to the JBL's. They are pretty much rebadged Infinitys (Website descriptions of both are just a copy+paste from one site to the other!) So in the end i got a $300~ish speaker at $130~, just without infinity all over it
