View Full Version : creaking noises coming from suspension

Whenever I first start driving my car while it's cold, or when the weather seems to be cold everytime I brake I get a light creaking sound coming from the front, and whenever I go over speed bumps I have a huge creaking sound. I'm assuming it's suspension but not being an expert I thought I would see if anyone else has any ideas on what it could be. When the car has been driving for 15 mins or so the noise seems to stop and there is no creaking at all.

Bennoc,

I have the same prob in my magna.... and had it even worse in a 92 GSR lancer...and in winter it sounded like a tin can full of rocks that's how bad it got......went away after 10-15minutes of driving.

Found out after much disassembly that it was the big "D" bushes that are fitted to the lower control arm (suspension arm)
Don't worry about it unless it's really Pi$$ing you off... it can be a mongrel of a job....not so much getting to it.... it's taking the bastard thing off.... help if I had the right tool for the job.....

You can try to spray some silicone spray (Supercheap it's made by Nulon) it may help but the rubber is dry where the arm pivots, so it may not help at all..... give it a shot with some spray and see if it helps....

If it goes away after driving a few minutes... it's not your cv's.....

Well that sound is typical of CV's.

Does it creak when you turn corners, go over speed bumps etc. coz if it does i'll bet you 99% its CV's.

I gotta replace my right hand one, not that hard of a job if you've got a spare saturday

mine crekes if i turn out a driveway

typical CV problem. If you listen closely while you're turning it should happen

I get this funny sound going up my dirt/rocky driveway in the morning. Sounds like rocks like an earlier poster said. Sounds like the shocks are completely buggered and bottoming out when they fully extend. Is this the same thing? Mine might do it all the time though hot or cold.

Yeah when turning, but not all the time...?

Depends how far you are turning, and also how much gas you are putting down.

The more the accelerator is depressed, the more the CV will creak

Hey, been trying to reply to this for days but my account wasnt working. Make sure all your bushes are properly lubricated and are not worn. My car has nolathane bushes (all brand new) and was informed by pedders that the god awful noise coming from them was due to the fact that I had not put any lubricant on them before putting them on. Mine also only made noise for a while before they heated...but now it's all the time and quite embarrassing!

I have a bit of an issue with mine squeaking too, basically happens when I'm moving slow. no idea where its coming from, just know its in the front somewhere.

Haven't taken it anywhere to get checked as I simply cant afford it, and the mechanic passed a pink-slip and went through 3 services (w/road test) like that so I hope its ok :-/

This sounds exactly like the problem I had on my '97 Diamante. Try spraying some silicone lube on the two rubber bushings of the stabilizer/sway bar. For a longer term solution unbolt the bushing caps, spread the bushing open and put some graphite powder inside. Re-assemble.
Do the same at the rear bar.
