Um...

My 97 TE Mag makes this weird noise, it sounds like the fan is hitting something, but then it sounds like someone grinding a chainsaw on metal.

Some of my mates say it sounds like a valve spring problem, from valve bouncing by giving it 6000+rpm

I now realise I did something stupid...

Anyone have any experience with this matter?

any kind of grinding and slapping noises from your engine needs urgent attention!!!

and yes, valve bouncing a stock engine (or anyengine for that matter) isnt cool and should be avoided at all costs!!!

but if you get this noise frequently, then get it checked ASAP.

It only starts happening at 3.5k but this morning I gave it a few revs to see if anything has changed and I think it is worse now.

get to a mitsu dealer / eqlivent ASAP!

Do yourself a favour, get the vehicle towed to a mechanic and get it checked out proffessionally.

Its far cheaper to do this in the long run.

I definitely second that idea!!!

Done, It seems as though something (cant remember the exact part) was loose, somewhere in the exhaust I think.

Anyway, the sound has reduced dramatically after tightening a few things.

EDIT- My bad the sound has returned. I now believe its a hole in the exhaust somewhere, gotta check this out pronto so I can add a lukey muff
