Is the car refusing to start? If it runs your ECU is fine as they either work or do not work.
A word of advice to anyone helping out, get the sus ecu into your car and then if there is an issue with the broken car, then your ecu will be safe

Are you sure? the problems with mitsubishi's ecu's are well documented. When the caps leak, they often cause problems that come and go such as sputtering, weird idle, not starting, etc. sometimes the car will run fine, other times the car is . Damage can be evident when the ecu is opened up, but will not show up on an ecu scan.

Was the same ECU used throughout the whole line, IE are all V6 ECU's the same?

For starters, the ecu will either work or not work, it will not work sometimes and not others. This is usually your relay under the glove box or an immob problem if you have one.
The ECU is in general the same, an early TR ecu can be put into a late TS and other way round. There are mapping differences along the line and also for manual and auto.
In my KR I had a late TS manual ECU with an early 4cyl TCU as the shift pattern is higher slightly

Wow interesting mod, worthwhile doing for V6 auto owners??? I reckon in my car you really gotta give it a bootful and really let it know what you mean do get the engine to drop down a gear or revv a bit. And thats in 'pwr' mode, normal mode is shocking.

Then why are the part numbers the same for a auto and manual ECU's?.All the v6 ECU's that I have came from KR and TS autos and manual, all the same number.

I think he's saying the TCU's are different for the shift pattern. The engine ecu doesn't effect the the transmission. Manual wouldn't have a TCU either. The later engine one would have better fuel mapping, better economy/power maybe....

thanks for all the posts guys,
turns out not the ECU, i had picked up some dodgy petrol at a pump in sydney and the fuel looks like it contained some water.
so the car coughed and spluttered its way through that and now its fine.
remind me never to go to that petrol station again...
