I'd be very keen on the entire centre console, vents, stereo surround, ash tray & ciggy lighter fascia and the lower console insert... Plain carbon fibre weave :D

It's really hard to say at this point because there are too many variables to consider, but I'm sure you can afford it:D

Are you covering or copying out of interest?

I'm after some CF twill for a headlamp project. Normal black CF, though the glass/al fibre stuff looks interesting. Have you come across the black fibreglass weave cloth in your travels? Its a bit easier to handle than CF, but I havn't yet found an Aus source...

I'm still at the planning stage for the console, it's seems labour intensive.

Yeah I can get a carbon look FG when necessary.:D

Hey mate.

Was wondering if you are still making these. Cause I would seriously be interested in a couple. Mainly a stereo console surround.

After I made the CF overlay on my consoles wayback, now I'm using carbon kevlar this time.

This is just a short instruction on how I do my CF overlay.
Materials:
Sandpaper
Brush
Carbon fibre
Epoxy or Polyester Resin
Acetone
Clear paint

Tools : Electric drill
: Dremel tool
: Mouse Sander
: Blade

Epoxy resin has a good bonding properties to plastics and gives a nice clear finish. The problem with epoxy is the pinholes, bubbles that pops out during curing time. You can minimize the pinholes by using a hair dryer and brush over the bubbles, but you cannot elliminate all of them, pinholes will still be there.
I'm using polyester resin now have have no issue with it, though epoxy is still ideal.

Preparation:
1. Sand the console to remove paint using 240 grit sandpaper.
2. Once you remove all the paint, get your 100 grit sandpaper and sand it in a crosshatch pattern (be carefull with the edges).
3. Drill few holes, this will serve as an anchor so the overlay won't easly split-up.
4. Mask around the edges, knob and switches.
5. Rub acetone to clean and remove oil on your console.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o248/MagnaTech07/ckev1.jpg

6. Brush a thin layer of resin, make sure the resin flows underneath the holes you drill.
7. When the resin is at the gel stage, lay your CF and press it lightly to shape.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o248/MagnaTech07/ckev2.jpg

8. Brush on your resin
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o248/MagnaTech07/ckev3.jpg

9. Before the resin is fully set (75% cured), cut the excess material using blade.
10. Brush another layer of resin (I usually do 5 coats of resin)
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o248/MagnaTech07/ckev6.jpg

11. After drying, sand it starting at 180 grit, 240, etc.
( I use mouse sander on the edges and dremel inside the swithes/knob holes)
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o248/MagnaTech07/ckev7.jpg

12. After sanding, clear coat then have some beer and look at your masterpiece.
13. Don't forget to post your project in the forum.

No, I simply brushed the resin.

where did you get all the carbon fiber from??

i wouldn't mind doing a few things with the black/blue karbon/kevlar or just plain c/f.
is this stuff something that's really hard to find or should i be able to find some myself?

No, I simply brushed the resin.
And im guessing, do you just sand the resin down until its smooth and then clearcoat it?
or?
I reckon plain CF looks better IMO

This will be ready for sanding tomorrow

Just some constructive critique.

It *looks* like the fabric is getting pulled in some area's (bottom right handside, around the vents etc).

Not sure if you brush the resin on, but if you do, try just dabbing it on instead so it doesnt 'pull' the fabric and make it stretch in places.

It could just be the camera though.

Not the biggest fan of carbon kevlar, kevlar on its own though is hot :)

That said - nice work, later this year im going to start carbon fibre work, hope my first few pieces are atleast half as good as those :)

Carbon kevlar is a bit hard to handle compare with pure carbon, it distort easly because the kevlar is so smooth material.
I accidentally placed my thumb on that area, the one that you are referring too, but it doesn't look too bad I reckon...

Its not easy to put on, its also permanent as the epoxy will bond to the plastic.
