Hey everyone, 'tis been a while since I've been here, love the home page! :)

Anyways, I bought me a KJ MY02 Verada wagon late last year and for the past week or so the tranny seems to be getting stuck in neutral. It only seems to happen when I'm going around a corner at low speeds, I'll usually be in 2nd or sometimes 3rd, and it's as though it gets confused and decides "I'll just stay in neutral till I make up my mind" sorta thing.

I tend to drive pretty hard and use the tippy a lot. Anyone else with the 4sp tippy come accross this? I wasn't aware of this transmission having any common issues...

Any knowledge and/or advice you could give me would be great as I want to avoid spending my lifesavings replacing the damn thing! lol

Sounds like low transmission fluid to me...

Sounds like its slipping out of gear. The TR has done that a few times shifting into fourth under load in the past. Does it re-engage once you lift off totally and let the revs drop back down to idle?

Yes.

I've checked the tranny oil and seems to be OK... though lower than ideal. I'll check again in the morning. Would it be possible for it to be contaminated? It had it's service just a few months back and I had all lube replaced.

Thats what happens when they are low on oil.. Only needs to be a pinch low to cuase that..

You are checking fluid when the car is warm and parked on a flat level ground with it running and in nuetral..???

my question is, how can a transmission get low on oil if it's not leaking? is there a way. i'm assuming it can't burn oil can it?

Get the transmission flushed. Its not a standard item in a service, so it probably hasn't be done in a while. We got the TR checked when it did this those few times and it was transmission oil that was put to blame, still hasn't been flushed, but it was sense topped up (the cheap way to fix it at the time) and the problem is in the past :D

+1

Same problem fixed in my old falcon a few years ago with a fluid flush.

Thanks everyone. I've topped her up a bit and the occasional slipping hasn't shown it's ugly head (yet), though admittedly I've been driving like a camry driver last few days. :doubt:

Yeah checked the oil on flat level surface in neutral etc. Hopefully I won't have to do teh fluid flush.
