Hi guys, My 99 model 3.5l Th magna has a shudder/knock under accaleration, i replaced the torn right side engine mount, and that helped, but i'm pretty sure the rest is coming from the cv shafts, so i have a few questions, cheapest price i have found from a shop for the parts only is bursons for $135 each, but they said i have to swap over the abs ring, i've replaced shafts before, but never fiddled with an abs ring, i presume it is held on by a circlip or something, or is it something that needs to be pressed on and off?

Whilst on abs, mine isn't working, fuse is good, so maybe the abs rings weren't fitted last time around, can they be seen whilst the car is still in one piece or are they too far in the hub?

on ebay there is shafts that are $90 plus postage, but they are listed as only fitting the 3.0l motors, i thought these were all the same? can anyone confirm?

Also i used to own a kr verada and had both shafts replaced by a shop in sydney for a smidge under $400, i'm in melbourne now and if i could find someone to do the job for around the same price i would do that as opposed to getting my hands dirty, can anyone reccomned a workshop in S/E melbourne to do the job?

And just on a side note, i rang mistsu to see what a geniune one was worth, and they quoted $800 for the left side!

I have got shafts from A & L Driveshafts in Sydney before, $99 each + shipping (was about $10).

They know their stuff, I needed a specific shaft for an early KR that had less splines than the later KR's and the guy knew exactly the one I needed.

Just say you saw their listing on eBay for $99 and they will do them for that price.

My Recommendation is dont buy cheap or ebay ones.. Dont go to a spare parts shop or even a workshop..

Do some research in your area as best person for CVs would be a CV shop.. In sydney id recommend Southern Driveshafts.. He is the guy that all the mechanic would get them off.. Cut all the middle men out and go straight to them.. They can supply or even fit in most cases. Ive had CVs that where $140 for both supplied and had nothing but issues. They where rebuilt using cheap taiwanese parts.. The guys in NSW will remember the Northern Beaches Cruise when i smashed one down in the natio not even giving it a hard time. The guy then rebuilt both and off i went. With in a year(About 8,000kms) they where noisey again.. i went to southern driveshafts and he looked and said they are cheap parts.. He gave me 2 Brand New CVs exchange and supplied the ABS rings for $120 a side unfitted. They where all BRAND NEW PARTS and not cheap ****. he would fit for $40 more but was to busy so i did it myself.. They are so much better then i could of ever dreamed with my other ones. Car drive like NEW. If your gunna sell your car it doesnt matter as cheap ones will last a year. The guy said with my wheels and car being so low he said to expect these ones to need replacing in 3 years..:) He was honest and Good. i thought it was cheap too. $120 each exchange. He even gave me a 12month warranty with the car on 20s and 4inchs lower..

No one will give you a warranty if you change the wheels or lower them..

If you wanna talk to him:

Got my CV Joints for a 3.0L TF Magna for $95 each, including the CV Shaft + Joints (included me swapping mine oldies over), and as said before the ABS ring needs to be removed from the old CV and put on to the New CV, asfar as i remember there was no clip they have to be forced off and on, be carefull though, not sure how sensitive the buggers are.

Having said that, when i replaced my CV joints my ABS ring was cracked and i decided to replace it, the only issue is most places wont sell you the ABS ring alone, you need to buy the whole Driveshaft, or if they do sell you the ring alone, its for the price of a reconditioned Driveshaft, not nice at all.

Hope that helps

BTW, saw your sig, 1:17 at wakefield in a magna is bloody good, i used to get around there in 1:15 or so in my s13 silvia, and that was alot lighter and would have accalarated harder too. saw alot of cars that should have been going quicker, not, so well done.

Cheers.. Yeah that was my first time on track.. All i did was stop at mobile and fill car wwith 98ron and check tyre pressures and drove out out onto the track..:P I was lacking in the tyre department plenty.. They are only cheap 20s and had no grip.. They had a crap hold when cornering and just couldnt get any power down when i come out of corners.. Plus i have no suspension aswell. Car is lowered 4inchs. I just Loved the Brembos though..:P

I got my left side done today, it got so bad in the last two weeks the car was almost undrivable! the knocking was now under accaleration, braking, coasting, everywhere, it would just change in how loud it was, shaking the car enough to make the doors seals and windows ect rattle. Car's much smoother now, still a slight shudder during accaleration, but that should go when i do the right side in next month.

Also fitted some new bendix ultimates on the front, the old pads weren't worn out, but would fade fast, and for some reason the pins that hold the spring on the pads inplace were rubbing on the disc!

The bendix are already much better even though not properly bedded in yet, pedal goes a bit spongy with alot of hard stops but nothing like it was before, two hard stops from 100 or so in succession would see the pedal go to the floor and the car not slow much at all, a fluid change should make a good difference again...

My abs still isn't working though, i've got the abs rings in both sides, the fuse to the abs isn't blown, any ideas on what it could be? is there more than one fuse, do wheel sensors fail?
