Ive been planning to put 3rd gen seats in my 2nd gen verada wagon for some time. I understand the front seats will bolt straight in. For sedans, I have also heard the backrest goes in fine, but the bottom seat bit doesnt fit in right, and needs some custom work, although due to the seatbelt not being attached to the bottom part, its not a huge issue.
Thats all great, however I have a wagon. Are the seats from the wagon and sedan different???? Not sure if the back seats would be interchangeable or not... Trying to figure out if I could put 3rd gen seats in the back, or if my only option would be to re-trim if I want them to match.
Knowledge is power. Please share :)

The back section of the wagon is completely different to the sedans, the main reason for this is because the back in the wagons are obviously designed to fold down so are a different shape and do not have the hinge and bolts for this.
The bottom section is also very different in the sedans, the wagons are designed to pop off easier for quick removal, they have different clips and im pretty sure the sedans bolt on? can someone confirm this. where as the wagons are only clipped in lightly.
I have some spare rear sedan seats in my shed for some reason, i will compare tonight
What are you trying to do? get a sedan conversion happening lol
or did you find a good set of sedan leather seats or something.

I'm under the impression he's wanting to fit 3rd gen wagon seats in the 2nd gen?
Don't know sorry, but if you could find a wreckers that had both you could just try swapping there (haven't seen a 3rd gen wagon wreck at any of my locals).

Thanks for the info.
At first I thought they woudl be completely different, but after thinkign about it I wasnt sure. You say the wagons seats are made to fold down like the sedans, but the seats in a wagon DO fold down.... At least in a 2nd gen they do, maybe 3rd gen is different.
But if 2nd gen sedan and wagons seats are the same I could use 3rd gen sedan seats in the back.
Im wondering coz im trying to get a full set of seats from a nice 3rd gen rada, preferably leather, but dont know what my chances are. Obviously leather for wagons is impossible i think, even nice trim would be hard.

no no, the sedans do not fold down only the wagons, 2ns gen and 3rd wagons both fold down. sedans are bolted in.
I would safely say the rear section of a sedan will not go onto the wagon. the bottom section, maybe with some playing around and adjusting. probably not easily though.
EDIT: just realised i made a mistake in my first post which confused you.. I said the backs of the sedans are made to fold.. what i meant was the back of the wagons are are designed to fold

In the sedans, the back portion of the seat is held in at the parcel shelf by two steel hooks, and bolted by 3 bolts at the base. The actual base portion of the seat has two steel "hooks" that slide under the back portion, and two rods at the front that clip into holes in the chassis. The base portion can be released quickly and easily by pulling the two tabs and lifting the base out.
Not entire sure about Wagons, but you seem to have that covered anyway.

ahh k, that clears things up a bit, though its not what I wanted to hear
Guess I will just have to get my back seats re-trimmed if i want it to match.

I am still wondering after reading all this, will 3rd gen wagon seats fit 2nd gen wagon? Not after leather etc, but after a long trip recently, both mt wife and myself found the standard SE wagon front seats more than a bit uncomfortable. Seeing as we plan a trip to Darwin and a trip to Rockhampton over the next year, I was thinking of fitting some 3rd gen seating. I would do the back as well just to keep it all matched up though. If they would bolt in, what would be the best type.
Thanks

Threadmine, after searching this was the closest thread that came to answering a question:
Will 3rd gen wagon seats fit in a 2nd gen wagon?
My seats are starting to show their age and i would like to swap them for newer seats from a 3rd gen wagon if possible, any help would be much appreciated.

Well i think we can safely say from threads the front will. As for the back it would have to be sedan to sedan or wagon to wagon.
The best bet without going to wreckers and playing would be some measurements.
With the wagon the bottom rear seat has two u shaped sliders at the rear and two clips at the front. The third gen im not sure but if the same or even similar should fit fine or with a bit of mucking about but not much im sure of that...Any one got a pic of the third gen lower rear wagon seat from underneath?.
As far as the back section goes that will be the tricky bit. It has to be spot on for width and bolts or if brackets are out you may be able to use second gen brackets with third gen seats, But may be a pain.
Just having a guess i'd say third gen front and lower rear should fit. Rear upper may need to stay second gen and be re trimmed.Or you could use the third gen fabric and do a cut and shut in the back?
time permitted i'll get a rear pic of mine and measurements, with a bit of luck someone might do the same from there rear thrid gen wagon for a comparison
Sedans of other cars,i've done in the past and are fairly straight forward with maybe a few new bolts and a bit of extra or less bolstering around the sides to look flush fitted.
Wagons are a pain as the seats fold down and either work or don't. unless you can weld etc then its needs engineering.
