WARNING: COMPLETELY USELESS POST

Wagons are the sexiest cars on the road by a long shot!

I would have one if it werent for the fact that i couldnt find a manual one at the time.

OK uslessness over; Id say deffinatly go a 3rd gen (duh) and one of the newer ones for added safety (airbags, abs, rahrahrah, all the things my TF doesnt)

I bought my old wagon (now my son's) and fitted a Dickie Seat as we needed the extra seats. But this was only for the odd occassion that I needed it - not the main family car.
A wagon & dickie seat would not be my first choice as a family car if the dickie seats will be consistently used.

IMO, Dickie Seats are for emergency or occasional use - not meant to be an every day seat.

1. Lack of footwells for children's comfort.
2. Lack of 'real' engineering (ie. factory engineering / crash testing).
3. I believe it places children in a 'crumble zone'.

..and from experience, there's no leg room once you put the Subs in... lol

It depends on how new you want it or what your budget can afford.

I've had a TE & now have a TL wagon & they're miles apart. Size wise, they're exactly the same. But as for handling & safety the TL wins outright. Best bet is to go for as new as possible, pref the TL+ for the extra airbags.

As for the dickie seat, have you got it already, or are you going to buy one? Anywhere that fits cargo barriers etc, will be able to tell you if they have a seat suitable for a Magna.

IMHO though, I reckon the boot in the Magna's a bit small for the extra seat & like GRDPuck I wouldn't think it'd be the safest way of transporting your kids around.

My 99 Altera gooon is great. Better with LPG as the 3.5 Altera is the "only" model that got the LPG compatable engine from the factory, just a hint for ya.

Just remember your not buying a new car, servicing records and get a mech check ect ect.

Depends on your budget. A 3L V6 is probably the way to go if you want great economy. If your buying something newer, try and get a TJ 3.5 at least, has the revised cams I believe which assist in the fuel econ abit. Difference safety wise between the 3rd gens isn't anything really afaik once you've got one with dual air bags, abs etc until you get to the TL's with their side SRS.

Mate thats a good deal for a KJ Ei period, let alone wagon. If the service history checks out and you like it to drive, go for it!

we took for a test drive and drives and handles beautifully ,it was owned previously by salvos so it was well maintained no smoking in it and funnily enough it had clear contact stuf over the instrument cluster and the speed control unit thing

Sounds like a good buy. :D

I'd be keeping the cargo barrier, ugly as they are. Stops unwanted objects flying into the back of your kids heads when you have to brake hard. Only reason I put one in.

I hate the cargo barrier too, but hubby insists we use it whenever we know we're going to carry anything that will knock us out in an accident.lol

I don't know about the newer wagons, but we had to get the back windows resealed in our 97 model because they leaked like a sieve. Check under the carpet in the cargo area.;)

Bit of a hijack, I have a '99 th wagon, and am intrested in fitting extra seats, Whats needed to be done from a legal standpoint? do they need an engineers certificate or the car's official seating capacity changed to make them legal? what sort of expense is involved, and do they fold up or need to be removed when not in use?

So did ya get the Verada? It did sound like a great buy and the higher spec the more forgiving you can be when/if something goes wrong because it's so nice.

At those KM's has it had the belts done, if not get them done or get them thrown into the deal.
