View Full Version : best fuel consumption improvement mods

Hey folks,
I enjoy a car that's built for performance, however my carburetor 4cyl certainly wasn't and i'm going to stick to cosmetic and reliability modifications.
I'm not sure on if there actually is anything but does anyone know any mods i can do to improve my fuel consumption (preferably not absurdly expensive options either).
Spoke to barry and he said most of his things wouldn't do much since mine's a carby but he suggested getting an earth wire so i'll do that but any other suggestions would be great,

Gah too much hassle, i'm guessing that's about the only real thing i can do with the carby?
If so thanks for the help guys, i'll just have to wait till the petrols on a particularly low price (compared to the others haha) and get a big pile of jerry cans :D

yah, kinda did it on my 1st gen a month or so back. I put the efi from my dead motor onto the carby donor motor, then put that into my efi car... if that makes sense... swapping the fuel systems was quite easy compared to the whole engine. plus it woulda helped that I had the motors out in the first place lol...

The main problem isn't finding the parts, it's the fact that my car knowledge doesn't extend past changing tyres, the basic stuff and my recently acquired knowledge of the ingition system of ma car so doing it all would take a bit long.
If i were to buy all the parts and do it maself what would i be looking at for insurance rises (i wouldn't think it would change since it's not a performance mod)
And how much would i be looking at for all the parts required?
Might think about it eventually if i keep the car till i finish uni

I wouldn't think it would cost more to insure, no...

Going by my 1st gen knowledge (I assume it would be similar enough to 2nd gen for this) the manifold was different for the efi/carby model and thats about it iirc. Shouldn't cost ya too much I'd hope, get em from a wrecker for a hundred bucks odd, maybe a bit more, I don't buy many parts, so I'm not up to date on prices too much since I have most of them left over at home from my donor car :)

and if you don't do it yourself you'd be looking at a couple of hundred to get it done prob i reckon.

1 big tip for DIY jobs: buy a haynes manual if you haven't already. for approx 30-40 bucks its worth every dollar with doing work like this!

Insurance shouldn't change.

With my engine conversion my excess just went up.
