hey guys!

Ive just blown my gearbox in my 2.4l manual magna, i was just wondering whether there is any differences in the gearboxes say from a 3.0l or 3.5l manual as i feel its going to be hard to find a gearbox for my engine seeing as they made so little of them. can anybody shed any light on this?

cheers brendan

Im fairly sure the only driveline difference between the 3 motors was in the final drive ratio (ie diff or wateva), could be wrong tho.

pretty sure none of the V6 gearboxes can be used on the 4cyl engines
tho i may be wrong

I read some review i googled up the other day that said the manual boxes on the 3.5L motors were stronger than the ones on 3.0L, dunno the truth behind it though.

the 3.5L manuals have a taller first gear ratio. This was to try and combat wheelspin off the line as no traction control was fitted.

Have a look at the top of the bell housing for a transmission model number. Post it up here and i will have a look at the one in my TE (3.0 v6) and see if they are the same for you.

From what i've read, the v6 gearboxes WILL NOT fit a 2.4L.

Could always do a 3.0/3.5 conversion at the same time :)

i may as well buy a new car for the price of the conversion
i just need to get hold of a second hand box to keep me on the road for a little bit longeras i am sick of driving dads gutless 1st gen carbie wagon!

Since you already have a third gen, the conversion shouldn't really cost too much. Like damn. Those paras you have could pay for half of a 3.5 engine :P

Engine: $600ish
Paras: $300-400

but the only problem is the body is rat **** and im going to weigh in how much its going to cost, instead of doing a v6 conversion im thinking about chucking in a mivec 2.4 out of a lancer and have alot more reliability!
