has anyone come across an issue when replacing a timing belt that the rear bank cam moves once the tension is removed from the timing belt, both the front bank and crankshaft timing marks are aligned but the rear bank has moved,

any ideas ???

hmm has happened tons of times to me..
have held the front cam and belt in place with vice grips (on very low tension as to not mark the belt) then make sure the rear cam gear is locked and slowly move backwards towards the correct timing mark

the problem is you can't set the timing mark up as it springs to far forward or back on the rear bank

Hmmm....so the cam and cam gear dont unlock yeah, your just having trouble keeping it set?
I found (With a bit of help off a member off here) it was easier with two people. When i had got the cam gear in the right spot, i would keep it locked there (unfortunately sometimes it would spin AGAIN) while he slipped the belt on.

yeah from what i gather from doing a couple of timing belts is that the timimg mark puts the camshafts at the top of one of the lobes, ie, full lift. You have to balance it spot on otherwise it will pop around to the base of the lobe. Tricky, but not impossible.

spot on, damn lobes, all done now, cheers
