It's time for me to replace my front and rear bumpers.
Reconditioned bumpers (primed) sell for around $250 for both.
Just wondering if anyone has experience with this and whether the paint sticks to reconditioned bars as well as it does to a new bar (or whether it flakes off)?
Thanks!

depending on what model your car is you could get a bodykit (vrx or ralliart for a similar amount)

Don't you still need to have intact front and rear bars before mounting the VRX kit (That's my plan too)?

wow. thats heaps good. hmm, but shipping would cost a bit.
i think i paid $350 for the front, but shipping was $120.
the rear bar im getting is from the same guy and he said he will give it to me for $500 inc postage.
and somebody on AMC is giving me the sideskirts for $200.
hmm. a bit late now for the kit. bugger. probably would of saved $100 on parts,
$100 shipping.. but the bars im buying are prepped ready for painting.
so probably come out even at the end.
oh yeh. so what model is your car??

there is nothing wrong with reco bumpers as they are repaired professionally and are usually cheaper than new. However, before you buy a pair of reco bars, go down to your local mitsu dealer and see what they charge for them. magna stuff is dirt cheap. We dont put reco bars on magna's because mitsu match the reco price for new bars everytime.
If your getting them painted somewhere see how much the smash shop can get them for as they are likely to get them cheaper (trade price) than you can. $250 is about right but you should be able to get new ones for that.

Slightly different bumpers but i think i paid something like $140 brand new genuine for a KJ front bar and about $240 for a KJ rear bumper bar, both from Mitsubishi.
I couldnt believe how cheap they were, especially the front.
When i get the front re-sprayed, i usually get a whole new bar as it is easier and cheaper than getting the panel shop to prep, prime and spray the old one.
Paint sticks better to a new one too. Reco ones have a tendancy to mark and stone chip up easily in my opinion.

Mine is a TJ2 AWD Sports - soon to be TJ2 AWD VRX :D
Thanks for all your opinions!
The reco ones are $240 for front and back together (primed and ready to paint).
New ones at best trade price come to about $350 or so...
Hmm choices, choices...
