Out of these clarions:
http://clarion.com/au/en/products/2008/audio/speakers/quality/SRQ1620S/au-en-product-pf_1172393312359.html

and these jaycar splits:
http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=CS2374&CATID=15&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=609

Can get both pairs for $120 each, so price is not an issue. Just simply after some opinions what you think would be the better speaker. This will either be for rearfill or front stage, and they will be amped by a 4x100wrms jaycar amp.

I'm no expert but I'd go the Jaycars, they're compared to a lot of higher end gear than those Clarions in comparison reviews and they usually fair pretty well. Like Magna's Jaycar Audio really is underrated I think.

Never been fond of clarion speakers either, they're overly harsh in the high end when you pump em up a bit IMO.

Well the jaycar ones have higher RMS, so you'd prob get a bit more out of them, but i havn't heard either, and honestly, at that kinda price point, there really isn't going to be huge differences between the two, i'd imagine you'd be happy with either.

Having said that, why would you get the jaycar ones for $120 when they RRP @ $99 on their website?

$120 was with postage, are there any stores in the SE that sell jaycars for $100? Last time i checked there weren't many dealers around here.

There's one in ringwood... Near the Suzuki car dealer.

Also U'll find that the Jaycars (i own a set) are scratchier and more high pitched can only really tell if u pump em, and really keen ear, but it is their, otherwise fantastic can take a real beating, they're like a 4WD, they just keep on going :P

Just drove past the place tonight (they were closed obviously) but they are having a "massive jaycar clearance sale" so might be able to get a bargain :D.

Gonna head up there tomorrow, if they're pretty cheap i'll let you guys know.

Perhaps you should try and have a listen before you purchase. You can also get some JBL and Hertz splits for under $150. :D

Did you mean these splits?
http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=CS2329&CATID=15&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=602

Also, I'd rate the Jaycar higher ;)

Yeah Leigh mate the $99 ones are the coax, the ones quoted by uneek1 are the splits.

And look, I've had $400 Focals, I've tried $700 dynaudio 3 ways, and I've had the jaycar splits.

And personally, unless you are absolutely frantic about having the best SQ, the Jaycars will serve your purpose. I'm currently using the Jaycars now (I had to sell up my Focals :(), and if you fiddle with the crossovers, you'll get the sound just right. And they sound great for me. Nowhere near as good as the Focals, but they aren't all that bad either.

The only way you'll notice the subtle differences, is if you'er trying to hard to find them :P

oops, yeh linked the wrong speakers. Thought the jaycars were $120. Will check out this local supplier, see if he has any splits for < $120. Sounds like they're the way to go still.

I had the older models of the Clarions, They dont handle much power which is the downside but overall, a pretty nice speaker, i liked it anyway, from hearing alot of speakers on the soundboard when i was choosing speakers i thought these sounded the best for the $$$

ooooh... hertz, consider them as well... will def be worth it.

Also u gotta think to urself, most of ur time spent in the car (unless ur like me :P) is spend in the drivers seat aka the front half of the car, so that's where u want the quality sound to be.
