Just fitted Haltech Platinum Interceptor, with following results. Worth every cent I reckon
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/6022/haltechtune1hf7.th.jpg (http://img134.imageshack.us/my.php?image=haltechtune1hf7.jpg)
Setup is:
178,000km 3.0 TF Sports Tippy
ceramic Pacemaker extractors
catback Redback exhaust
EZBoy flowed TB
RPW Performer intake manifold
unboxed K&N pod (to be boxed by next weekend)
Really interesting part is talking to Dave Thomas about tuning to the manifold:
"Dyno looks good - glad you like the manifold effect, it is quite noticeable isn't it, but as you now know, the tuning makes all the difference to it. I usually recomend a fuel pressure regulator kit with increased fuel pump pressure to 42 psi with the manifold, as this iwll increase the acceelrator pump values, and improve the throttle resposne further. But needs to be tuned running these pressures to lean it out in the appropiate area's."
So now I have a regulator kit on order...

nice mate, how does it compare to when it was un-tunned

I would think that would be the black lines on the graph and the red lines are post-tune.
looks good Schnell... a nice 5kw gain throughout the range and what looks to be a huge gain at the top end 'cause it doesn't tail off until much later.
cheers,

Something wasn't quite right up the top end there to begin with :)
But just goes to show what a good tune can fix, and also the need for some mods to be tuned in to get the most out of their offerings.
Good work on the before and after dyno readings!

Agreed. That was the effect of wacking the RPW manifold on. Prior to tuning there were obvious gains from 4,200. But it was almiost like a monster camshaft - nothing below 4200 and then all hell broke loose. Now it's just one long seamless rush from idle to cutout - none of the legendary Magna flat spot. Next step is to fit an EZ manifold...

I still cant see the need for a FPR on a car with no major engine mods. Dave told me i didn't need one even with my list. Many other tuners said that a FPR was not needed as you are pulling fuel out when tuning, not adding more. Maybe on a hi-po N/A or FI, but I would be surprised to see any gain for the money. Nice result BTW

nice work. and not only do you have more power but you will gain some fuel economy too (as long as you are gassing it everywhere to feel the power, LOL)

I'm in desperate need of a better FPR now.. mine is stuck on 38psi.. and it needs to be up at 42psi.. not really noticeable when driving normally except when your off the gas initially. but can't wait to get it fitted and see what what the car is like over 5000rpm...
however nice work with the tune mate! was there any reason for going with the haltec in particular?

i would love to see the results of the FPR. just to see if it makes a difference...
also can't wait till EZboys manifold, and see a comparison between the two.
might wait for the results before i buy 1.
BUT great work btw. they are excellent results.

Two reasons for going Haltech. First was the availablility of local support through Haltech themselves and Dave Thomas at RPW. Second was I got it for $750 from an AMC member, new and unsused when retail was $1100 :)

Are you happy with it Schnell?
Good to see you got a nice result, should feel a little peppier up top now. :D

Yeah very happy. So much more responsive to tiny throttle inputs everywhere in the rev range. No flat spots, just one seamless rush to the redline.
Re the discussion about the addition of an FPR, I'm just doing what I'm told by Dave T. I figure he knows what he's talking about and I dont lol

I wouldn't count on it, but that's just my experience..

He knows how to make you spend more money than is necessary... Dave sees $$$ over service..
Youll open up a can of worms mentioning RPW on these forums.. (and some other forums)

yeh ive heard this a few times. mind you they do know magnas pretty well, so they are pretty reliable..not like a lot of mechanics out there.

Lets get back on topic! Nice results Schnell, especially for an auto! :D
I'm not sure if you've been asked this before, but have you concidered upgrading the block to a 3.5L? It'll inject a fair wack of midrange torque into the mix.

Thanks mate. Nah, gotta be really honest - I know that the 3.5 has more torque everywhere. But I love the sweet smoothness and revability of the 3.0. Happy to foresake a little power and torque for the feel and the smoothness. Just a personal pref and not having a go at all those who prefer the heavier hit of the 3.5. Also trying not to go too berserk so I have more money to put towards the long term purchase objective - a 1969 Mach 1 351 Mustang :D I'm a child of the 60's see....

I though post tune may have seen a leaner low-mid range AFR? They seem to settle into the 12.7 area over 4200rpm and the results show.
How long did they spend actually tuning the car - minus the time spend getting into the Haltech ;)

The tune was about 1.5 hours. They were pretty meticulous about it. Though they reckoned it was easy after the Testarossa they had just done lol
