Hey guys,
For a while now my TE magna has been out of action due to a head gasket issue and basically needs a rebuild which is gonna cost me a good 1k give or take. Now the good news is i have another car for the time being so getting around is not a hassle but its about time i got the magna back up and running.
So now the question is do i rebuild the old and tired 2.4L which has a good 200K on the clock or look at dropping in a new less K's 3.5L from a Ke or something along those lines?? I would assume that a 3.5L auto ECU and TCU would be needed aswell as new engine mounts, what else would i be looking at, i know the 3L guys habe done this for around the 2k mark even cheaper, what do you guys think??
And yes i have done a search on 3.5L conversions although it only gives me info converting from 3L to 3.5L.
Rgds.

ey matty
if you have a car to drive around atm why not save up a lil more and drop in a TT VR4 motor?

I am fairly sure that if you want to drop in a 6G7x motor into a 4 cyl TE, you will have several mods to do with the engine mounts, you will def need trans, drive shafts, wiring, ecu etc etc. Very exxy.
Hate to say this but you would be far better off finding a good third gen going cheap, swap over all the good gear from yours to it and then patch up your car and flog it. If Ash3 was selling his TL for 6500 then a good TH or similar or even a rada should be easy to find cheap

So considering the 4 speed auto came out in the KE rada which i assume had the 3.5 engine i shouldnt need to worry about changing the trans should i? Also what do you mean in regards to several mods for the engine mounts? I would have thought it would have been a straight swap from the current 4 cyl mounts to the v6 mounts? Also what would i be looking at roughly for the drive shafts? Aslong as i can source the parts cheap enough i have a friend willing to do the labour for cheap but as he has only worked on turbo nissans he aint familar with the magnas and wants me to get a rough idea on whats needed to do the swap.
lol ash, i wish mate, if the 3.5L is going to be a task im sure the VR4 engine would be even worse to fit.
Im not looking for massive KW's or anything like that as im in the process of buying something else to feed that desire, although i cant part with my magna either as its grown on me over the years. So i want it back up and running, just not with the pissy 2.4L LOL.

Block is different and so is trans, So you'll need a V6 trans, and in regards to the engine mounts, You will need for them to be cut off and rewelded im assuming and the mounts would be completely different...
As he said, better off buying a 3.5L because you have the 4 banger its sooo much more trouble

With changing the mounts comes engineering to, much better idea to just swap over to a cheap 3rd gen with the 3.5L, or the 3L if you that way inclined.
Also if you found a manual it would save you doing the conversion if you ever wanted to, I however like my auto, so I can understand if you would want to keep it.

i like the idea of a 4g63. You could use the bottom end of yours and see if the 4g63 head bolts up, and the oil and coolant galleries match up ok.

There is no way in the world that the trans is from a Verada if you have a 4cyl engine, it is a different bolt pattern to begin with.
The drive shafts have a different amount of splines
The engine mounts are in a different location from memory as well, the rhs and the rear one.
To be frank with you, if you have many $$ to spend ans waste on a car that is worth little more than sentimental value, go for it, be prepared with a v6 car to use for the donor though and be prepared for main things like engine mounts to give you big head aches. Not to mention the relevant transport authorty when you go to get your next yearly check up and you have no engineers cert (changing mounts will certainly mean it will need to be engineered)
