I've just picked up a 2 door kit of dynamat, and had a look at this pdf http://www.dynamat.com/download/PASMAG_Dynamat_Door_Install_Tech.pdf
Now I'm just wondering about the part where it says "inner" and "outer" door skin. I've bought the one kit, the $100ish one, just wondering, does it do the inner and outer door like it says is best, or only one of them? (for both doors). If it only does one, which should I do, outer or inner?.
Cheers

do the outer skin because dynamat is made to cancel the road noise and to amplify you speakers so with your outer skin down thaback of the speakers points at the dyna mat instead of the door
if you get what im saying

I did min on the door skin, plus if you do it right you might have enough left over to door some of the boot lid.
Does reduce the road noise and makes the music sound clearer as the sound is not lost to driving noises.

Dude I would class the inner skin as the metal you can see and where you mount your woofer(s). Outer skin is the metal behind the window when you wind it down.
For application, use at least 1 full sheet on the inner skin and half on the outer skin. I used 5 sheets to do both my doors. The hole idea of doing the inner skin is to help separate the front and rear waves from the woofer while reducing resonance. If you can make an MDF baffle to mount your woofer on, it will do wonders as well.

Alright, so the kit will do both doors, inner and outer? Sweet
Thanks, I'll be gettin ma leather back soon, I'll have a go at puttin the speakers, dynamat, and door cards back in all in one.

Hey guys, havin a go at the dynamat today (got my leather back :)). I've got my door off, taken the cables etc. out of the way, and i'm wondering, which bits of the door do I put it on :bowrofl: I'll take some pictures in a sec to show you what I mean, but basically, I can't figure out which holes should be covered and which shouldn't and all of that, for the outer skin I'm guessing I should do the whole thing? (whatever I can get too)
Also, I've had trouble with getting the door trim to stay on because I've had the door repainted, I think the paints just too thick, but I don't want to make it worse by putting dynamat in the wrong spot.
*runs down and takes picture* (brb)

EDIT: Now if someone can draw on this highly technical diagram where I should put the dynamat, that would be greatly appreciated, oh and if you can confirm my theory of covering the whole outer skin, that'd be great.

Sycrat,
Seal up every hole you can... With the big hole (where the lock rods go through) you will need to make an opening for them to go through.
Dynamat the outer skin (in through the door frame) which is the outside of the door... Also, once you have sealed up the door frame, dynamat over it too.
I just used thin mdf for the larger holes and duct tape for the small ones. The mdf is just duct taped on, so that I can remove it if I ever need access to inside the door.
Covering as much of the outer skin will reduce road noise and vibrations caused by the speaker.. Since it is a large thin piece of metal which spans a large area, it is prone to vibration.. Once you have deadened it, you should notice a bit difference when you tap on the outside of the door..
Not sure how extensive a job you can do with a 2 door kit, I actually used a whole trunk kit on my front doors alone.

Thanks mate, I'll go and do the outside now, and then see what I can do in the way of mdf.

Quick tip on the MDF... Use some cardboard first to make a template for the holes and once you are happy with it then trace and cut out the mdf.
also, make sure you use some wax/grease remover in the door first to make the dynamat stick well...
And get ready for lots of little cuts on your hands.. That aluminium backing will shread your hands.. Hope you have a little roller or something to help press it to the door firmly.. Also, make sure you don't get any air pockets when sticking it as it will reduce it's effectiveness.
