My cruise control only ever will switch on after i give it a good jab on the brakes.... The switch to activate it works every time on the control near the dimmer switch but to SET it on normally on the side of the steering wheel, the green 'cruise' light will come one for a second and then disappear.....

If i give it a good jab on the breaks and then real quick click it down to SET, it works!!!!!

I was just reading a thread about electrical plates under your steering wheel on the steering column and it reminded me,... maybe jabbing the brakes is making the connection, but its really strange.

once its activated, it doesn't drop out, and i can slow it down no problems.....

Any ideas guys?

I might be wrong, but isnt there a switch wired to your brakes that has to do with cruise so that when the brakes are depressed it cuts the cruise? If so, It's possible that this switch needs to be renewed or cleaned as it might be getting jammed.

EDIT- giving it a "jab" on the brakes might unstick the switch every time. just throwing it out there

Yeah great idea!!!! no idea where that might be though.
I never have a problem with the brake lights coming on randomly or anything........ wonder where that switch is

Edit: Could it be one of those relays in that black box under the hood? Cant remember if one is cruise control or not

really dont know seeing as I dont have cruise. If you get the workshop manual you're bound to find it.
