Sorry Guys if I bringing up a topic from before but I did do a search.

My drivers window started to play up. On a cold morning it would go down so far then stop, this would happen at several locations. Now the window will only go down 1cm and stops it wont go down any further. It is a TJ and electric windows. Has this happened to anyone else and if so what did it take to fix. As I am wanting to sell the car and need it fixed before I sell it.

Thanks to all who post a reply and view the thread and think about it.

it's a common issue for the drivers side power window module/motor to fail, you can pick up a second hand one from wreckers and if you are familiar with cars, it can be replaced yourself. Or you can get your mechanic to replace it for you.

Shouldn't cost you to much to replace.

You should consider yourself lucky it failed while the window was up and not down, in this weather lol

Once your fit new motor, don't forget to lube the door frames with silicon to help the glass
glide otherwise you'll stuff up the new motor in the long run.

By a can of silicon spray and spray on the rubber seals (where ever the glass makes
contact with). Mask everything else, especially the steering wheel, don't want to have a
nasty accident.

Most auto shops should have them. Even KMart. I bought one for my old KS and also use it
on my garage roller doors to keep them quiet.

Window motors gets strained by having the glass glide on wet rubber.

Ok

I went home last night and took off the door trim. The window will come down in stages, but once it stops going down I have to put it up a little then down again until it stops. It sounds like something is cracking or crunching when the window moves.
There is a cable that look like it should be clamped to something (it has a spring on it and a couple of plastic things. It seems to work a little better when I push the square plastic thing into a small bracket that on the door.

Does this sound familiar to anyone, or do I sound like I am rambling. Can anyone Please help.

Thanks All for your responses

sounds exactly like what my window was doing. the cable had come off the spool and was fouling on the metal guard/lip of the window assembly. mine was so bad the cable had frayed and would no longer move more than about 20mm.

I have not replaced it yet (it was due to be fixed the weekend after my last trip to Wakefield :( ), but I've had a look at it.

very fiddly to get at, and if you've got big hands, forget it! last time I checked, the power window assembly was about $300 from Mitsu... probably much cheaper if you can get one from a wrecker.

Just wondering how hard it is to replace the assembly?

Mine has the same problem... the little plastic thingy popped of the 'U' shaped bracket. I put it back on but its still making the cracking/crunching noises and stopped working the other day for a little bit, so I think its time to replace the assembly.

Got a quote from Mitsi... $630 which I thought was a huge flaming rip off. They apparently have a new type of setup from what was originally in the TH...

I have replaced my broken regulator with a unit from a wrecker ($195 from memory). it was a different mechanism (looked much more robust and better designed) from the one I took out, but it bolted straight in and works like a charm.

I think it took about an hour, but most of that was fiddling around because I didn't have power to the car.

you pretty much remove all the interior surface stuff from the door (trim, speaker assembly, switches, dust cover, etc...). undo all the wiring related to the window regulator.

there are four bolts which hold the regulator to the door frame. undo these.

there are three (I think) bolts which hold the glass to the regulator. you might need a friend to hold the glass while you undo the bolts and remove the old regulator.

installing the new one is the reverse of the above... take care to line up the window properly so it shuts nicely.

if I think of anything else I'll post it up.

Thanks for that! Might be tempted to give it a go... Will see if I can find a 2nd hand regulator.

I just remembered that the three bolts that hold the window to the regulator aren't all accessible at the same time... you have to undo the lower one, then drop the window to undo the top two.

kinda hard when you don't have power , but hopefully you should be able to plug the switch back in and move the window up and down.
