I have done a search and didn't come to any conclusions.....my problem is that my battery light has decided that it wants to stay on, however if I rev the car up it turns off.
Is there anyway I can test it to see if the problem is either the battery or alternator?

It will be the altenator. The battery light is connected to the alternator to let you know when it is not charging.

Both my Verada and a workmate's Magna have had this problem. It's the voltage regulator on the alternator. He replaced his, I have been lazy!
About $65 from auto parts suppliers, but you may have to get it ordered in (we had to). Tricky, but not impossible to replace yourself if you have a bit of mechanical know how.

dido on the alternator regulator... the reason the battery light reads : battery : is because if it said : alternator : half the population wouldnt know what the hell the problem is.

i had the same paroblem 2 weeks ago but the light stays on even when i rev it up... took it to an auto electrician n it was the regulator 15 min job n he charged me 90$
I'm not sure how similar 3rd gens are to 2nd gens with regards to the alternator, but i do believe they are similar. I replaced my whole alternator myself in about 30 minutes with my repair manual...
rather than getting a new regulator, if you want to save cash go down the wreckers and pull one off yourself. If it's anything like a second gen, all you'd need is a small phillips head and 5 minutes to get it off, and same to put it back on. You should be able to do all this while the alternator is still in.
of course, removing the neg terminal on the battery before starting any work ;)
Just a suggestion! Its' probly more painless to just take it to an auto eleccy and get him to do it but i like tinkerin'

yeah had the same problem the other week with the TP... had a spare alternator lying around so I just chucked that in and problem fixed! Dunno how much different the setup is for the 3rd gen magnas is, but it was only a 15min job on mine :P
changing regulators n that may take a little longer as I assume thats more fiddly for your car, but yeah, alternators the problem I'm 90% sure by the sounds of it.

I'm having the same issue, but it only stuck on recently, before this it was flicking on and off intermittently. Should I be taking it down to get fixed or could there be a quick fix.

i ended up putting the multimeter on the battery and it read 12.49volts then started car and it went down to 11.8volts.

like i was saying in other alternator threads, you can be lucky and it might only be the reg,but it also can be a faulty rectifier, rotor, stator brushes bearings etc,its not always a reg problem that will bring on the warning light, and i wouldnt suggest buying a bloody second hand reg!,your buying someone elses problems!,just fork out a couple of extra bucks for a new one and fit it yourself if your cash strapped
19 bucks????????????,are you sure?, you sure as hell wouldnt have got a new alternator then, they probably just benchtested a second hand one and gave it a lick of paint and handed it to you! ,but i think you may have meant $190 no?
