okay so all the 2.4ltr owners this is possible i believe no one has attempted it but it has happened,
i'll list as much as i remember what you need to convert over from a 2.4 to a 3.5, now i converted to a 3.5ltr with tiptronic from a 9/00 verada, and also fitted climate control so heres what i rememeber that you will need,
engine,
gearbox,
auto shifter and selector cable
engine bay wiring harness
dash wiring harness
climate control unit,
climate control servo's
climate control dash trim,
verada ashtray assy
ecu,
bem
ignition key
instrument cluster
tracton control ecu (and any modules attached to the dash harness)
instrument cluster surround
trip computer
all engine accesories( p/s pump, alt, a/c comp etc)
all engine mounts
exhaust y pipe
a/c hoses ( from bolt on section to compressor)
high pressure and low pressure p/s hoses
cv's
brake pedal (brake switch won't screw into tf pedal)
i'll add more if i can think of anything else
now you will need to change the plug from the engine wiring loom to the fuse box, and also make a new alternator wiring harness as tj's run the alternator harness across the front of the car in the main harness and a 2.4 runs it through the engine wiring harness, if you have manual windows and are fitting an electric window dash harnes you will need to make an adaptor for the drivers door as well,
thats all i can think of now, any questions just ask i'm more than happy to help,
this is probably the best bang for buck engine mod i can think of
will add pics later on
cheers

Orrrrrr you can just buy a 3.5, then you dont have to go through the hassle of getting the parts + the car off the road + the cost of the labour + the fact you will probably need it engineered as you are changing engine mounts. You can pick up TF-TJ's for less then 4k these days, even with a flogged out motor and box you can pick up a low km one and have it installed for less then 1500 if you look around.

That 400 bucks was for all the parts listed? not including any of the RTA crap and engineering cert?

yep all the parts required brought a wreck, and don't need rta crap here in qld as the kf had a 3.5ltr in it so only had to change the engine number and capacity,
better bang for buck than a manual conversion lol, almost doubled the power lol, even tho manual conversion is next

Thanks for the info mate, i had a thread open with this same question and didnt really get a good feeling about the conversion, but it can obviously be done without a major expense, pics would be fantastic.
cheers.

yes it can and i read that thread and all the negativity so i did it and now will share with everyone else,
just like when we did the first manual conversion on a verada and only the second or third ever done,
i like to think of an idea and instead of talk it up for ages do it and then show the results,

Last i checked i havent done that, ive got my funds approved yesterday so ill be picking up 50% of my go fast bits on the 19th, and ive put the on hold deposit on the other half, i just got to get time to go down and pick them up.
Anyways your first post was a little vague in terms of approximate pricing and also whether it was engineered or not. Anyways GJ on the conversion does look the goods.

I wonder if that's kj.ei's Verada that was written off recently? Same exhaust tip and i think it was hit in the rear where that damage is by a Honda?

Excellent work, how long did it take for you to do the whole swap you think?
is it on the road just yet? or still annother couple of little things to tidy up here and there kinda thing?
that whole... pulling out most of the interior, would put me off doing it if i was going to - as i would be afraid that i would miss something or put it all back together wrong and stuff it all up.
so you did a climate control conversion too i read?
how hard was that to do?
good on ya for doing it tho :)

Yeah, nice job. I would never have enough brave pills to take something like that on. Well done.
Hey interesting to note in one of the pics that the exhaust on the 4 fried the bonnet heat shield. When I put extractors on my old TF wagon I found the extractor heat used to do exactly the same thing. Interesting the V6's don't....

Well done, is good to see it actually happen.
I was sure from measurements that 2 of the mounts would not line up, as is the case in the TR/s but you have proven me wrong..... :)
Once comment, from someone here who has done many engine conversions, personally I would have changed all of the electrics from the rada over thus you would not have had the issue of changing the alt wiring over.
Good job guys, last note, most will not pick up a complete car for $450 but if you get a car like the TF I picked up for 1400, you can wreck the car and make some $$ back there also.

yeah i toyed with the idea of changing all the wiring but there was no real need to spend an extra 2-3 days for 3 wires,
the car just has a few little odds and ends left
the climate control conversion was actually the easiest part, all the screw holes or the servo's are there ( theres 3 servo's), you also have to change the fan speed resisitor as there different, but there a direct swap
