Hi all,
Just to let all you victorians know, Jolly Rogers have a complete TF 5 speed manual there at the moment
Was there on Saturday and the car was virtually complete, had everything from the box to the ecu, no better way to convert with the ECU, wiring and everything bolt on you will ever need.
Have fun!

I read somewhere that the manual in early magnas is too weak to handle the 3.5 motor, so should only be used with the 3.0l? and that is why it took mitsubishi a while to offer the 3.5l with a manual box, is this right?

I know the 3.0L gearboxes have a shorter gear ratio.

Ive never heard that B4 cant see why they would be weaker in anyway as no one has ever mentioned that they are different in anyway.

To a point. The th onwards (IIRC) has a stronger case or something along those lines. All 3.5 manuals have a taller 1st gear ratio to try and reduce wheelspin off the line, but, it doesnt work too well, lol. Plenty of spinnage to be had!

Its only been mentioned in about 47 threads at last count that the 3.0L manual box is weaker than the 3.5 manual box in the TH onwards. In an article they state that this is the most likely reason the TF sports still only had the 3.0L engine, and the gearbox was "strengthened" in the TH onwards to handle the massive torque difference between the 3.0 and 3.5.
1st gear ratio is different aswell, afaik 2-5th are the same...

Either way, was there again today, is still there.
Is a Solara, has cruise etc so would be a better conversion agian espeically if someone wants to grab the harness and put is some of the nice bits while they are at it.
Yes, the TH box was stronger however unless you are planing to take it down the quater mile, for everyday use the 3.0 box is just fine.

mitsubishi manuals handle alot, its just if you run a puk clutch, that it will kill them alot quicker
I was looking at the 380 flywheel today against a TJ flywheel, but only on paper, but both where 8 bolt cranks so it should fit no probs
has anyone fitted a 3.8 in anything yet?
