I have one, it is excellent. Having gone from an open diff to the quaife unit while tracking the car, I reckon I can offer some insight :)

Feels the same as an open diff in normal driving, doesn't clunk/feel funny at low speeds like a friction-plate LSD does. Done a few trackdays on it (including last one sprintex'd), no signs of any durability problems.

Honestly for normal day-to-day driving you can't really tell it's there, unless you are a bit enthusiastic exiting a roundabout, or its wet (no more accidental wheelspin:P ) etc.

However, on the track it really transforms the car, and makes it feel much sports car-like as opposed to a sloppy fwd barge. Basically unless you are REALLY silly with the throttle, corner-exit understeer is virtually non-existent, compared to an open diff you can practically mash the throttle, and it just grips and goes.

At 9/10s it feels like the LSD is basically sucking the front end inwards, neutral power-down. If you cross the limit (which is much higher than with an open diff), it will begin to understeer, but in a very mild and progression fashion, meaning you can balance the car on the throttle by simply lifting a tad. In contrast, with an open diff it feels like there's a very fine line between good progress and wheel spin, soon as you get any wheelspin the front will simply wash out straight, and you lose tonnes of speed to bring it back.

The LSD doesn't just greatly raise the limits on the track, but it actually changes the way the car behaves, making it feel more like a "driver's" car - I found I actually begun to learn to balance and steer the car on the throttle, rather than basically just feeding in the power gingerly trying to avoid wheelspin and ploughing straight.

Basically my opinion is for just street driving you'll barely notice it, and IMO it's hard to justify. But if you get hooked on tracking the car regularly, IMO it's an essential mod that will not only potentially improve your lap times by quite a bit, but also add more depth to the experience of driving a magna on the track, and make it feel like much more of a fun driver's car, especially combined with the right suspension setup.

Even now with the Sprintex, I find I can feed in the throttle MUCH harder than when it was open-diff but NA. Before the sprintex I did one trackday with the LSD but still NA, out of the 2nd gear hairpin onto the front straight at Wakefield I found I was pretty much mashing the throttle with almost no modulation..with the open diff I had to try to modulate it quite gently or use 3rd gear instead.

Basically I am very impressed with the Quaife and have nothing bad to say about it (except the price is rather steep if you aren't gonna be making use of it on the track).

I've got one. So far it's lasted 2 months longer than my cusco did. Much nicer to drive around town for reasons stated above.

If you mean it was a real bitch because of the way it clunked, creaked, chirped etc while cornering at low speeds (shopping center carparks etc) - then yes, the Quaife is completely different.

Basically as Andrew said - it behaves like an open dif at low speeds, so comming from a car with a clutch pack type LSD it's like driving a "normal" car 90% of the time. It definitely kicks in when you need to put some serious power down while cornering, but unlike the cusco - it won't feel like it's gonna rip the steering wheel out of your hands when it kicks in.

Cheers mate, but I won't put my hand on my heart and say that these difs are unbreakable just yet. Truth be told I don't drive the car hard anymore - can't afford to.

I have one, but haven't used it yet :O

good to hear no one's broken one yet.

prices, hmmm, funny you should mention that. I remember when Dave first came on here and actually put a price up on the forums (which was deleted). that was when the AU$ was about 0.41 GBP... now the AU$ is about 0.48 GBP (almost 20% better in our favour) and the price of the Quaife units has increased

just another instance...

Yeah..... I remember when he posted on the forums that he would do a special price for those who purchased Cusco LSD's which failed (I purchased the last one he sold for a magna), after I confirmed my order with him, I compared prices with a fellow AMC member who also purchased one from the 1st shipment. My "special price" was less than $30 cheaper.

Anyway.........

Dosnt matter how good the Quaife unit is, I think the fact that you can get them only from one place in Australia would turn me off.

Have you thought about getting a Ralliart box (with diff) and putting it in your car Jase ?

Tzaboy is running massive power, including track days, and dosnt seem to of had any issues with the stock Ralliart diff yet.

Just an idea.

Well if you can find me a non damaged ralliart box im in.. been trying for ages..

I wouldnt say TZABOY is running MASSIVE power.. he is running good power and havent had an issue.

The only diff that anyone has ever had an issue with is these Cusco diffs. i broke two and its been a year now so its LSD time again.

Anyone tried sourcing one from anywhere else except for RPW..??

PM Megatron. I gave him the part number from mine after i recieved it and he contacted quaife or one of their dirtributors directly. I could be wrong but from memory his lead didnt end up being much cheaper than rpw.

So what did you pay delivered to your door? I paid just a smig under 2k, then had the gearbox and diff overhauled when it was all apart, so just over 3k including the cost of the clutch and flywheel work

Anyone got the part number so someone can find out how much people should be paying in this time of high dollar?

Maybe a US supplier?

Yeah - about those numbers. Can't remember exactly sorry. Think it was around $1900 delivered and about $2100 for the G/box rebuild including a brand new output shaft cause my final drive gear was smashed to bits.

Don't think I've got the part number lying around anymore. I've got a feeling that those were the guys Alan spoke to when I gave him the part number from mine but that was about a year ago. From memory the difs come from the UK, so the exchange rate probably won't make that much difference.

I have a look on my recipt at work today to see a part number, I know it's a Quaiffe ATB with a few numbers at the end of it

Edit: Was busy at work and forgot, on holidays now for a week
