As the title suggests, I'm trying to ascertain the difference between a TJ and a KJ bootlid - does the KJ bootlid have additional drilling or design etc to support the chrome garnish and reverse lamps?
Having a look at the photo attached below it would appear that the KJ reverse lamps would require a hole in the bootlid.
Correct, the KJ bootlid is cut out to mount the chrome garnish and reverse lights. Its not visible all the way through, so its not a hole as such, but its a hole in the outer layer.

Thanks Lugo - does it require a large hole - or is it something that could be drilled?
A hole big enough to house the whole garnish, inc The reverse lights and so on afaik. Its more effort than its worth I'm lead to believe.
There's the odd KJ at the wreckers, better off taking that bootlid and spraying it the right colour.
