View Full Version : Fuel Pressure Gauge

Want to install a fuel pressure gauge inside the car at the same time when installing a boost gauge (figure it will be easier doing them together).
Will definitely be an electric gauge, not a mechanical one. Anyone installed an electric one in their 3rd Gen? Where does the sender hook up to?
What would the standard fuel pressure be for a 3rd Gen? Mine would be slightly higher due to the high flow fuel pump but not sure how much higher it will be.
Looking at getting an Autometer Ultra Lite gauge but they make a few different one in this series with different ranges so not sure which one to get.

I think the first one is for a carby engine....i believe efi uses higher pressures. someone will correct me if I'm wrong
wouldn't have the faintest idea where it hooks up...around fuel pump maybe?

Just before the fuel rail is best.

You'll need the 0-100psi. Magnas sit at about 30-35psi at idle.

I always thought you ment to put it after the rail..??
If its before u wont get best reading. Mounted after rail will give you a better reading of whats goin on wont it..??
Also if you put a reg in then it needs to be after rail. If you have a reg(After market) then guage needs to go between reg and rail..:)
There is a diff between EFI and carby guages.. like mike said. if its efi 0-120 is a EFI one.. Cant see you geting pressure any higher than 50psi though..:)
P.S. Its illegal in NSW to have any mechanical guages mounted in the cabin..:)

unless you have modified or upgraded your FPR you should still be running standard fuel pressure which is base pressure too base+1 atmospheere of pressure (non-turbo)
its the FPR's job to regulate fuel pressure not the pump, how ever sometimes you can get such a high flowing pump it can outflow the FPR which will cause extra rail pressure.
The sender unit should be anywhere betweem the fuel pump and FPR. Before the rail will be easiest as there is rubber hose there to splice into, where are some customising will be needed to put it after the rail before the FPR.

Where would be the best place to install the fuel pressure sender in these pics? I guess just splice into a fuel line using a T-piece?

The best place for you might be down close to the firewall, since you've got that great big lump of Sprintex in the way. There'd be a fair bit of room to move in, and depending on the gauge you go for, you can mount the controller internally or externally.

Yeh that's why i'm going with an electric one but not sure where's the best place to install the sender in my case.

Fit it to the boot lid.. will give you more killer wasps..:)

yeah like i said, anywhere before the rail (as there is plenty of rubber hose) Probably better off installing it after the fuel filter (i cant remember if they in the engine bay of a 3rd gen) the closer to the firewall you mount it, the easier it is to find somewhere to mount all the other associated hardware.
PS electric gauges all the way, good choice

Yeh makes sense prolly end up doing this. Is there a special T piece i would need to make the electric sender fit into fuel line?
