This is one for all the owners of Tiptronic Transmission Magna/ Diamante.
It's something that i did today and was wondering how many others this happens to.

Yep, over revved forgetting i was in Sports mode.
Mitsubishi should make the Drive slot on the Transmission control so you cant move the stick once its in Drive.

Can't over rev it, it changes gear by itself if it revs to hard. Trust me, ive tried very hard in my parents car to go beyond but the bastard changes by itself!!

Mine is a earlier model, and it don't change gears, it has a rev limiter.... just goes vrrm vrrm vrrm when it hits it's limit..... cuting the fuel or somethin....

yeah this is not fun (when you think you're in Tip, but are in auto and rev the crap of it in N) It might help if mitsi had made the gear selector lights on the dash visable in light, the damn things disappear most of the time!
Another way to potentially make your auto box unhappy but is lots of fun (kids don't try this at home!) is to make sure you're on a flat empty road, stick car in N, rev to about 4k+ RPM (depending on how brave and stupid you are) make sure TCL is off if you have it, and then take foot off brakes (if you had them on) and then whack tip selector to Tip mode and up a gear....... An instant receipe for clouds of smoke going back 30 or so metres and wheel spinning, tyre screeching action for about 10 seconds!
Is lots of fun, is very stupid and could cause damage (to car, wallet, other people or license, or all of above!), but did I say is lots of fun??
I must say it is classic to do this next to common***** driver, their cars look better covered in your tyre smoke from your rear view mirror.... hehe,,, NOT THAT I HAVE EVER DONE THIS

Every car will have its weak points, on some its trannies, on others its something else.
I've had a '98 Advance and now 2000 Sports and i've found with a little care (IE. No Neutral Banging, not mentioning any names eh BadMagna:))
and regular servicing your transmission should be fine.

Yeah with the neautral bang thing ( didn't know there was a word for it, other than launching :? ) I haven't done it once on my new transmission, but I did do it about 20 times on my old one. I have dropped it at about 5400rpm into tip quite a few times, and yeah you can feel its pain, but it still held together!
But when I had to replace the trans from un related semi stupid / semi legit accident, the $9k bill (covered by insurance) to replace the 4spd tip box made me a aware that I really shouldn't be doing it anymore! Plus I grew a brain....

LOL........my mate had a VY hire car once
anyway we took it out one night to give it a bit of a road test ;)
i was driveing at about 80kmh and my mate wacked it it strait into reverse
with my foot still to the floor........talk about smoke, and then later on he did it again but when the wheels stoped spinning he wacked it back into D then reverse and so on about 5 or 6 times thats when it stoped would not move in any gear.........so we turned the car off and then back on and it was fine
the funny thing is it was the only way to get the wheels to spin, we even pulled out the ABS and T/C fuse's
Can't over rev it, it changes gear by itself if it revs to hard. Trust me, ive tried very hard in my parents car to go beyond but the bastard changes by itself!!
Well it shouldnt... Maybe you are thinking that it down changes gears if it gets to low in revs...
Ive hit the rev limiter in mine in first multiple times by down shifting to many gears... Never had it 'bounce' back to 2nd... ever.

Yeah I tought you'd need to give it a bit of a beating to break it.
How have you found the 2000 sports? Thats what I'm looking at getting.

A little off the topic but anyways.
I've found my 2000 TJ Sports to be a good car. Much more fun to drive than my 98 Advance (which was Auto and only 3.0 litre). No really serious problems with it however:
I have had my electric window motors adjusted (they kept dropping the window in the last 5cm of winding down)
I had the oxygen sensor replaced because it kept stalling my car
and thats about it really.

Its a little 'doovy' that measures the amount of air taken in. It then helps adjust the air fuel mixture accordingly. Thats one reason why 'universal' pod filters are no good for your Magna, the cause the air to tumble and not enough air gets into the oxygen sensor, causing the car to incorrectly adjust the air/fuel.

Was just faulty and wasnt reading correctly. They just hooked up the BEU and it spits out a faulty sensor apparently.

Hi MagnaArt, the Oxygen sensor is in the exhuast system and measures whats coming out of the engine and adjusts what going in (air/fuel) as needed.
The pod filter problem is turbulent air over the MAP sensor in the intake giving faulty info to the brain(computer), there is however a pod filter designed specificaly for the Magna.
Hope this clears it up for you.

I knew my Mechanic was a little confused. I was sure the Oxygen sensor was in exhaust. But he argued black and blue that it was in the intake. So I was inclined to agree. Sorry if i've confused anyone. :?
