Just bought me an 05 380 VRX, only thing that annoys me about is the brake squeal. Really starting to annoy me, everytime I apply the brake that annoying high pitched squeal....its horrible. Is there anything that can be done to fix this short of buying new brakes. Or will I just have to fork out for some new ones?

Other than that its a sweet car.

I have the same problem with my new 380. I just thought i needed new brakes, but any excuse to go out and give my car a good thrash is a good one :D i just fitted the galant intake with a K&N filter too.

Congrats, Mate!

You got a great colour as well.

If you go down the mod path described in here you'll be amazed at how well the car grows in performance.

Nice to see a new addition! Just for curiosity's sake, could you tell us why you bought a 380, despite the bad publicity surrounding the production line's closure? I've noticed an explosion on 380s here in far NQ ever since I came back from overseas - used to have only three (including mine) in the city but now they're almost in every corner I turn!

Oh yeah - never had a problem with brake squeal, except for that time I did a twisting downhill run and hammered the brakes at each corner - dissapeared after I let the brakes cool down as I ran down the highway.

There seem to be lots of 380s in Brisbane. They're quite popular.

Yeah, I now see more 380s than ever before! Used to see a few in a full day, but now see double that within the space of a few minutes. They're everywhere! If only they had been this popular before...

Was originally looking at Toyota Aurions, Ford XR6s and The Holden SV6. Never really considered the 380 due to the bad publicity and the fact that they are out of production. That was until I saw it sitting there at the dealer. Overall just thought it had more of an appeal than the XR6 did. I quite liked the instrumentation and it has a very nice interior. We then took it for a spin and I was sold. The price was also good compared to the others aswell. Got it for 20k in the end. Absolutely love it!

Only thing I think it needs is a proper spoiler, the series 1 only have a lip thing on the boot. Heres another pic.

Nice ride mate. Like knotched said there is plenty of performance just waiting to be released in these. Maybe look at the 380 Series III 'sports' spoiler . I liked them.

Do you know roughly what I would be looking at in terms of cost for a series 3 spoiler and to have it fitted. Also a little worried about how it would look with a spoiler and the 'integrated' spoiler that it already has. Might give mitsubishi a call tomorrow.

I thought they were a lip spoiler..not removable? Find a price forthe spoiler then talk to a few panel shops. it pays to shop around too. I am having my front lip spoiler repainted. I was quoted over $300 removed paint chips etc painted and refitted. Ended finding a reputable place to do it for $200.

I like it more than the other choice of spoiler.

BTW Im lovin' that blue on the 380, I was almost going to go the same colour but my previous car being blue put me off so i went with platinum silver

I want someone to photoshop some rims so hopefully i'll have a few pics up soon.

Do you have any other plans for your car mate?

Hire car companies bought a heap of them early this year at cheap cheap prices from Mitsubishi so thats why you would be seeing them everywhere.

I have the same problem with my brakes i do beleive it to be a glazing problem....... A good excuse to get slotted rotors!

It was a rental car that made me look in to buying my 380! but i wanted a manual because i knew how hard i drove my rental!

Yeah that's true. I work at Brisbane Airport so there are quite a few around the Eagle Farm area . However, I've noticed lots more, some with mags in the wider area that are definitely private. Whether they are ex-rentals or not I don't know...

Nice!!

I dont have brake squeal, but, I do have a nasty brake fade/shudder, a crook front strut, a rumbly wheel bearing and no time to take it in for warranty work.

New wheels (I really like the series III VRX wheels, so im trying to get my hands on a set) and tinting. Thats will be it for now. I'm happy with the performance so i'm not going to worry about anything engine wise.

Have an Ex Rental. Was a bit wary at first about the purchase bur gathered that i had a couple more years on the warranty and i plan only to keep it until 100 thous so another 8 - 12 months should see me out.

Just wish they made them for another 12 months then i could have grabbed a newey.

Also wanted to drive differant cars when away with work but everytime i go away a get a bloody 380 even when i ask for others. (good for small parts steal though)

The big difference you will notice from the first link of the Series III VRX is that it has the standard (SX) tail-lights. The Series 1 & 2 VRX/GT had those clear tail lights with the extended lip-spoiler edge, which integrates with the spoiler you have. You couldn't remove the spoiler without changing the tail lights to standard ones. That's why the Series III ditched the lip-spoiler when they brought out that raised wing spoiler (so that there wouldn't be 2 spoilers on the boot lid). Let me know if you want to swap your VRX/GT tail lights for standard SX ones (which I have, hehe).

Yeah, I considered the lights swap - but for VRX/GT-spec headlights and tail lights plus that spoiler, totals $1K. Too much for a cosmetic mod that doesn't do anything. However if I see some on a wrecked 380 one day...
Wheels are a good choice though.

Nah, I prefer the lip-spoiler too. Reckon the S3 spoiler looks awkward and "tacked-on".

I actually like the look of the bigger spoiler but the thing that would put me off would be even more restricted vision out the rear window.....its hard enough seeing anything out the back as it is, let alone adding a rear wing!!!

While I was overseas I had a lot of time to think about adding a spoiler to my lip. Called mitsubishi about getting a high profile and the dude tells me it ain't actually an OEM part! Found it hard to believe, but he quoted me about $350 (can't recall exact amount). Couldn't tell me if I had to pay extra because I already had the lip on.

He said if I contact the company direct as opposed to bringing the car into the dealer they can possibly get me a better price. Got the company's details and considered getting a unique spoiler instead but as soon as I got back to my car I felt in love with the lip yet again and put the idea on hold.

It really depends on whether you want the executive (lip) look or sporty hoon (high prof) look.

okay - the series 3 spoiler is $500 painted and fitted through a dealer - i know this as i negotiated mine in with my purchase of my 380 - after all, i had to know what it was worth so i knew what i was negotiating.....

They never said anything to me about it not being a OEM part......wierd!

HA!!!! you think the vis out of the 380 is a shocker......try it out of the VE with the dirty great spoiler on the back of that. Only good thing about it is that headlights from behind never dazzle me anymore...... kid you not. Have rear parking sensors and I use them EVERY day :)

Agree with most others re the VRX lip spoiler and clear tail lights, I loved mine and it set it apart easily from the "less" sporty models.

Cheers.

While the debate on 380 tail light wages on, I certainly admit those tail lights (on the Commodore) are very nice, and always stand out in traffic.

I personally choose an LX 380 over the GT 380 for the sole reason of the tail lights, thowe I would have prefered the GT rims, can't stand clear tail lights! make things look cheap and tachy

Its a funny arguement, this one. I actually like the lights arrangement within the VRX/GT lights, but the exterior of them are made of too much clear plastic, that it is does look cheapish. If it were colorcoded, or black they might look better. I might get a set one day, but not at the price they currently go for. Why can't there be an aftermarket 380 tail light assembly like what's on the back of that Clubsport R8?

"aftermarket"??????????????????????:belt:

Aftermarket is something one buys that is not factory genuine, cheap clear tailight lenses from ebay to put on your VR/VS commonhore.

The ones on the E series HSV's had over a million dollars spent on them in the deveopment process of the VE's to stop copycat Holden commondore owners copying.

No, I cant see where 1 million dollars went but they are LED so they do look cool :bowrofl:

Yeah you're right. I wasn't implying that your lights look like common aftermarket Altezzas like those horrid things made for VR+VS Commodores - sorry if that's how it sounded. Your's are awesome; I like them cos they are NOT bolt on. The rear panels are different on your model to other model VEs, so those lights WON'T fit other models without extensive and expensive panel work.
I just wish the 380s had something like it, but with the model now dead that will never happen.

Well, each to their own.

I love the integrated taillights on my car and wouldn't change them if you paid me. They are quite different and original. The wing on the Series 3 does nothing for me but I do like the clean look of the standard rear taillights and how they flow from the rear quarter section of the car.
