hi guys...
got a mate TE which just had a service which included a cv shaft replacement... the thing is that there is a ratter in the exhaust ratter... went to another mechanic and they concluded that its a metal plate in the extractor that is making that noise....
apparently there is a plate dividing the front extractors and back extractors and that has come loose...
solution they gave was to cut a hole and remove the plate and weld it back... was wondering if anyone has a cheaper alternative??
cause he just spent like $500 on the service and asking him for another $90 is just too much....

yeah the 6...
its said that since its a V6 motor... the point that the front and rear extrator meets, there is a plate and that has come loose causing the rattle...

the plate is probably there to seperate the exhaust gas streams before they join nearer the cat. I would ask them to take it off and weld it back in place, it would be there for a reason.

common problem, its a a piece of metal in the engine pipe that breaks off and get blown into your cat, which then can be heard as a rattle, had it happen to my TF and then my TL, with my TF i had the engine pipe replaced, cost about $500-$600+ (parts and labour) can't remember had it replaced in 2004 at a Mitsubishi Service Centre, the TL i just had it replaced with a set of pacemakers at an exhaust joint $580 (parts and labour). All i can say is, its a dreadful noise.

Is the noise there all the time when it is running oronly under acceleration??
