hey all, the Rada is starting to play up a little at the moment - its starting when i turn the key, firing over and running for a second then 'stumbling' and stalling.

when i flick the key again to start, the car fires up and runs - ALTHOUGH tonight i when i got bacck in the car, it did the first stall (which i was expecting..) so i flicked it over again and it started.
i then flicked the headlights on and the car felt like it was again going to stall/die on me.
lighty stab on the accel stopped it from dieing tho.

last week, i had to top up the battery water - bout half an inch or so in each cell (i didnt fill it to the top)
Gas_hed seems to think that if i replace the battery my prob will go away.

(Car is stock - cept for the Lukey Muffler i got fitted about 2 or 3weeks ago)

so, if its time for a new battery - what do i need? CCA wise?
im thinking 600CCA or so at a min?
cost isnt a huge issue as i can get it for trade prices.

cars obv a KL Verada (AWD too)

dont plan on doing a huge sound system upgrade, maybe a amp and sub down the track but it wont be a killer system.

suggestions appreciated - but i think im going to need to get a new battery this week or else i might not be able to start the car!!

cheers
ps did a search, but couldnt seem to find anything that told me the amps i was gunna be needing for reliability.

EDIT - iv never had the battery light / battery idiot light come on on me

Yeah, AC Delco are a top battery, have one in the old XT that turns over the 302 as easy as it was an electric motor, even after months of sitting around

got one of the guys at work to use the company name a bit to get me a good price on a battery. seems hes scored me one for around 155 - one of them Delco ones.
not sure on the output / cca right now, but i have the part number for it (which i left at work! hahah)
normally for anyone who just walks in off the street and wants it, its a 250 battery.

i know its spose to be maintainence free as well.

just gotta hope the car holds out till friday when i have my early day.. the cars getting harder and harder to keep running that first turn of the key.

TE and later Magnas have M50 size batteries, a common size for most big cars. The M50 is the size of the casing and positioning of the terminals for a regular, starting battery (ie: not a deep cycle). For comparison, most 4WD's run N70 size, which is quite a bit bigger in size and weight.

TE and TF came with a 400cca battery as standard, because that was the capacity of M50 batteries in 1997. The same M50 battery can now give about 560cca (Supercharge NS50 Classic in my KF Verada).

I have, until recently, ran a Supercharge MRV50 AllRounder (part deep cycle, to run a camp fridge), which is 15mm taller than the standard M50. The extra 15mm poses no problems for a Magna, but I couldn't put it in my Falcon Ute because it fouled on the bonnet. This battery will, very soon, find it's way into my recently bought NK 1997 Pajero.
