G'day all

Cant believe i only just found this site, this will be my third car (and my third magna :D ).
Just bought a white TH 99 Altera LS, and loving it so far, last car was a 99 TP SE. Loved that car, brilliant ugly beast of a car that just kept on kicking.

Pity i missed out on the last SA cruise, will try and make the next one.

Anyway my stock Altera is a great car but will be looking at doing some mod work to it. I can put in a kickass stereo with my eyes closed but really have bugger all idea about most after market mechanical and body stuff so was just wondering how much a few things would cost such as.

Body Kit
I like the sports wagon kit, sporty but not over the top. But as far as the cost goes do they come painted or what? How much to paint it? Is it the sort of thing i can put on myself (im reasonably handy but will i need any sort of special tools?)

K&N filter
Is this the same as a cold air intake or is that a filter plus a pipe to position it further from the engine. Again how much does this cost and is it the sort of thing that i could put in myself?

Climate control
For a 'luxury sports' model im surprised that it doesn't have climate control. What models do have climate control and is it easy to yank it out and put in a non climate controlled magna.

Im sure i had more questions but that'll do for now (especially considering that my savings are pretty much gone after the initial purchase, insurance, transfer fee etc, etc, etc).

So yea... G'day again, you'll probably be seeing a fair bit of me on here (i love talking about my magna  )

Hey mate. Welcome to the club. The climate control system came with the Verada's and not 100% sure if you can do the conversion on a non-climate controlled model. I'm sure someone will let you know why!!

Nice looking car BTW.

Enjoy!!

Hai.
Body Kit

K&N filter
Is this the same as a cold air intake or is that a filter plus a pipe to position it further from the engine. Again how much does this cost and is it the sort of thing that i could put in myself? No, K&N are just a brand of filters. Cold air intakes are designed to source the air from somewhere else (typically the wheelarches) where it's less affected by engine heat etc. Also in the case of the Magna to get rid of the horribly restrictive factory plastic tract.

Climate control
For a 'luxury sports' model im surprised that it doesn't have climate control. What models do have climate control and is it easy to yank it out and put in a non climate controlled magna.Climate control was reserved for the Veradas except for the LE VR-Xs I think? It's not simple, the relevant servos have to be installed too. Be easier to get a TL/TW dash, they look nicer even with manual HVAC controls.

I mean the sports, non vrx body kit... i think.

Basically i want the one on asylums car, i think his has to be the best looking magna ive ever seen. Aggressive but subtle and classy looking.

So how much for the mods? ballpark i mean.

And yea i figured the climate control would be a pretty big job  guess i will just have to keep it 'old school' for now.

ps, thanks for the fast replies

Hey and welcome to the club.

Sports Wagon(ground effects kit) - no longer available from mitsubishi, does fit over the th bumper. Wagon and sedan rear pods are different. VRX kits are going on ebay for about $850.

K & N filter - wont give you heaps of power increase but will rev a bit cleaner due to its less restricitve flow. Pod filter and a cai will give an induction growl. However make sure it is in a sealed box so that you arent sucking in hot engine bay air and that you are nice and legal.

climate Control - can be installed in a non climate car. Not just as simple as swapping the contols over as the standard a/c is cable operated and doesnt have any temp sensors, the c/c is controlled by electric motors and has inside and outside temp sensors. It is a dash out job to install i believe.

Hope that answers your questions mate, and also, use the search button. Keeps teh mods happy!:D
