View Full Version : Elante Spoiler

Ahh I bet people get sick of hearing about the elantes by now...
today I bought a spoiler off an elante (at upullit on womma road) and in case anyone wants to know, it had most of the rest of the kit on it, a little bit damaged but generally OK. i would have grabbed it but I didn't have enough money on me as I was only planning to get a little plug for my left headlight that keeps dieing on me.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone can reccomend the best way to put it on. I still gotta paint it n all since it's the metallic grey colour... But just drilling the holes out ought to be enough right? There's nothing extra I should bother about. Just thought I'd take a precaution cos I dont wanna end up with rust patches or any crap on my boot.
Also, just wanna get some opinions on colour, I'm thinking of painting it either black or white... dunno yet. atm I'm leaning towards white, since that is the colour of most of the rest of the car, but i sat the greyish coloured spoiler on there today and thought... hmm that might not look too bad in black... so yeah what do you guys reckon??
keep in mind the bottom of my doors and bottom of the car are also black, so the black spoiler wouldn't look entirely out of place. there are some pics of my car in a couple of threads (the 'ost your ride' thread and the 'my magna history' one on this page).

lay down some masking tape and measure it twice and drill once if you know what i mean cos if it's off you will notice it and it will always piss you off looking at it. also the masking tape stops scratches then spay some sealer or primer over the hole so they don't rust

i think it would look alright black. i repainted over the black under the doors and the mirrors and all the rubber on the extreior of the car.. looks good. think the black would look good to

yeah I asked a couple of friends and they said black also... It would be much easier to do it black than white lol, MUCH easier, so i might choose black for that reason... I'm just worried that it'll look to ricey :P haha lol I always bag the ppl who paint their bonnet black haha, but this is different :)

yeah bit diff between a black bonnet and wing.. just paint it black with spray paint and if it looks crap paint it white. if it looks good do it properly in black

yeh I reckon that's what I'll do. It's not hard to just paint it white if black looks crap anyways :) cheers for your inupt mate.

Just sanded it down and painted ot black. will post up some pics soon.
there was a small crack and chip or 2 in it. And its getting a lot of very fine cracks in it probably from weather, but hey its not too noticeable unless you closely inspect it haha.
luckily when I drilled out the holes they aligned 1st go haha.

Here are a few pics of it on my car, I'm quite happy with it. But I think I might sand it right down and repaint it again. There was a bit of crazing on the spoiler but I tried to paint over it after a lightish sand down and see what happens, but it's still easily seen on a close look (can't really see it in the pics), maybe even more seen with the black, so I'll probs have to sand it right back to get rid of it.

Yeah I probaby will keep it black. But will prob strip it and repaint it to fix up the problems. It's the first time I'd tried anything like this before haha, my first time ever using spray paint believe it or not hahaha.
Total Cost: $23.00.
Spoiler: $20.00
Spray Paint: $3.00
Everything else I had already :D
so imo a very cheap mod, I'm really happy with it for the price I paid haha

Haha, I was waiting for someone to say that.
Well kinda a long story... but not really. After the crash in my first Magna (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59213 for the story :P) where I had bout two new tyres less than a week before, I still had the 2 new tyres. So I thought instead of wasting that $200 odd i just spent on tyres, I'll put them back on my new magna :P Only them 2 tyres I put on my Elite, once the tyres on the alloys had worn, and I had to get new tyres on the rear alloys. If that makes sense...
so atm, my wheel situation is a bit odd...
15" Elite Alloy wheels on the Rear
14" GLX Wheels on the Front, with a different hubcap on each...
(hmmm, maybe this explains why my handling is a bit weird, and it screeches on my hills runs... *ponders*)
It's the latest trend mate, you should do it to the rada ;)

OK let me rephrase that. Basically, after the crash I had 2 brand new tyres left over (aswell as a spare everything between the headlights and taillights ). So when the front two tyres on the elite wore out, I replaced them with the two 14" tyres from the glx, hence having two new tyres for free(ish...). Ok, it costs my cars appearance for a while, but I'm thinking of gettin' the alloys back on, I miss them.

Yeah mate, they pop up at wreckers now and then, just keep your eyes out. It took me a while to get this one, and then another couple of months to get the rest of the body kit after that, but it was worth it in the end :D
