Hi.
A friend of mine has a TH wagon and has been quoted $500 to change the rear wheel bearings.
Is that a reasonable quote? Seems like a lot to me.
Is it something that can be tackled at home? Looking at the workshop manuals, it seems like it might be necessary to remove the axle and take it to an engineering shop to get the bearings pressed off / on, but is there anything else complicated about it?
Thanks in advance.

its a whole wheel bearing assembly you can not pull them apart
because of the abs ring on the back of the assembly
ring/ bearing/ hub

OK, thanks.
Other than that, can the job be done at home?

yeah, its not a big job. Probably take you about an hour to do both sides. You dont have to pack wheel bearings or anything like that.
It is a complete hub assy that you remove and re-fit a new one.

May I ask why you think you need bearings?
I ask because when my KF Verada was making "worn bearing" noises, I was advised to rotate the tyres front to rear. I did, and the noise moved to the front! It was uneven wear, and after a little while, the tyres wore in and no more noise.

Can't comment on the necessity for the bearing change - it's not my car. The friend who owns it has been advised by a mechanic that they need changing. She's planning to sell it anyway, so if it will pass a roadworthy she probably wont bother getting them done.
