View Full Version : 3.5lt into a TE?
How much is a 3.5lt engine worth?
I was thinking of buying a cheap high km TE and throwing in a newer 3.5lt (and working it N/A), is this a viable option or just a waste of money?
What other engine options are available for a manual TE? What kinda money would i be lookin at?
Cheers,
Cam.

Hey all!
What advantages do you guys see a 3.0L has over the bigger 3.5L? Is the weight better? Less fuel used? Anything?

If you are planning on spending dough to upgrade your engine I would do it to an engine that was substantially better. Sure you get a fair bit more torque but you would only be going from 140kw to 147kw. I would go for the 163kw 3.5L of the TH sports or onwards if possible.

i have a 3.5 auto
how much would you guess a 3.5lt engine is worth with low km's from a wrecker? I assume new genuine would cost an arm and a leg.

I ran against a 3.5 tip (155kW) in my car and pulled away very slowly...I was quite surprised to say the least. I have no objections in putting it down to the tiptronic gearbox tho lol

I saw one for $2500 with 20,000 km's a few years ago. The guy offered it for 2k if I picked it up that day.

I assume new genuine would cost an arm and a leg. maybe even look to getting a 6G74 MIVEC engine... would cost a bit more, BUT you're looking somewhere b/t 180kW-200kW stock!!! find a manual TE-TF and it should be a bolt on proposition... ask Mitsiman, he'ld know whats in it!! (and they don't produce much more torque so the old manual, which supposedly couldn't handle the 3.5 torque, should handle it no worries, Booya's does)
