Hi guys,

Please forgive me if this has been addressed before...I did a search but couldn't find the info to help me...

I've just had my timing belt replaced. The mech said he replaced a couple of other fan belts while he was at it. I'm real happy with the job...trouble is I've noticed a squealing when turning the steering wheel to full lock. A forum search mentioned squealing belts means a tension adjustment.

Would my problem be related to this? I didn't realise the power steering had anything to do with any belts.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Danzibar.

PS..I love my Magna.

If a belt squeals, it usually means that it's worn out, or undertensioned.

The aircon compressor and power steering pump are run by the same belt, the alternator by a separate belt. If you have a look under the bonnet, the belts are on the left side of the motor, fairly low down in the engine bay. If they still look shiny and clean, it's a fair bet that the belt is undertensioned.

There is a tensioner pully that will adjust the tension of the belt, it's pretty common for a new belt to stretch out a bit. If you don't feel up to the job your self, get the mechanic to tighten it up for you will only be a 5 second job.

Thanks guys,

I'll get the car back to my mechanic in the morning and ask him to adjust the belt tension. I was hoping it was a simple problem and easly fixed. I'll let you know how it turned out.

Cheers and thanks...

Thanks Mrmacomouto and Veradabeast,

I saw my mechanic today. He spent about 10 minutes adjusting the belt tension. Now, no squeals. Lucky I did that...this morning my steering was actually jerky and felt dangerous.

Cheers guys.
