View Full Version : Recommendations for new Exhaust (TE Manual)

I've had my TE 3.0 Manual for long enough now that I want to start making it a little less 'family". (At the moment it's stock, plain white. I just want to change a few minor things to get it looking a little more aggressive.)

I'd like to get a new exhaust to improve performace, and (of course) make it sound a litte meaner.

I want to be really carefull that I get the right one though, based on the following conditions (in order of importance):

1. While I want the car to sound nice I really don't want to have it sound like those damn civics that drive around with the 8inch cans. I've been in a friends care like this and after 10mins of city driving, I was ready to get out. The noise that thing was making it definately not what I want. I think I'd want it to sound pretty much stock until I get up around 3.5-4k, at which point a bit of extra grunt would be nice. This is especially true seeings I do alot of long driving. At 125km/h on the speedo, the taco is smack on 3k. I really don't want to be able to hear the car at that speed (well, anymore than I do now)

2. I don't really want to be able to see the new exhaust/can. While some people love that look, I really hate it. Definately more of a 'sleeper' is what I am aiming for.

3. I don't want it to hang down any lower than it does now. Driving around, I already hit the tow-hook on the back occasionally, I don't want to limit myself further.

4. And of course, some performace gains would be nice too.

I don't know if I'm being over-picky, but if anyone has a suggestion, that'd be great.

Thanks guys

-Dan

hmmm my exhaust system would suit you but i dunno how much you want to spend. mine is not loud but sounds nice and you cant really see it unless you look for it plus i gained a lot of power from it.

depending on how much money you want to spend , there is a large angle through Redback muffler you can buy get that and get it fitted then if you want more power and have a bit of money get a nice set of pacemaker extractors fitted. Then if you crazy get a high flow catilyst and resonator.

if you goto my site you can see a few photo's of my exhaust and as you can see when its fitted up you cant see it.

I know exactly what you want, REMUS. They make good quality mufflers that are nice a quiet with regular driving and when you open the throttle they give a nice deep throaty roar. Definatly not the Ricey buzz you get from the 8" cannons :D

Here I go again! lol

Lukey LR2779 :)

I've got this coupled with a 2.5" mandrel bent cat back exhaust and extractors, dead quiet at idle, no cabin resonance even at 2000/2500rpm (which is usualy where it most often occurs), and it's got the gutsy roar when you plant it.

Pics of it are at http://www.rpi.net.au/~jimmy82/magnapage/

Thanks for those reply's guys.. It's good to know there are other people around that want their car to sound nice without resorting to stupid 8inch pipes.

If it's not too much trouble, do you think you could include the prices of your setups...
I am trying to keep costs to a minimum (aren't we all) but I'll see what happens.

Thanks again,

-Dan

I got my 2.5" mandrel bent cat back system with the lukey and a chrome tip for $490

I was the prototype car for the extractors, but they're irrelevant to your model anyway...I think extractors are about 600?

I back killbilly on the lukey part - that is the only performance mod i have done to my car - around town it is a little louder - not much - but at cruise - u cant hear it until u drop it back a gear and boot it!!

Mine is the 3.5 but the same muffler is fine!!
