Hi,

I bought a Verada interior light for my TJ, its a big square one with the spotlights at each end. Mounting holes look like they line up with the current bracket for the standard sliding light, but it appears that i will have to cut into the roof lining. However, no matter which way round i mount the unit, there will be a gap on one of the edges where the light doesnt cover the existing hole.

Is this because i am missing the mounting bracket designed for this verada unit?

You may be right.
I haven't done this in a 3rd gen but I know with the 2nd gen you need to get the Verada bracket as well because it's different.
Back to the wreckers for you I think...

The third gen one sits up front where as the second gen sits behind the back of the front seats.

The hood lining needs to be cut, I recommend that you go to a wrecker and take a piece of paper with you, you can then make a template of where to cut.

The car has the holes for the screws, the wiring will need to be modified to make it all work, is not biggie.

the existing wiring plug is the same as the one on the Verada unit. T shaped thing. My existing 3rd gen one also sits behind the front seats. I actually have the seperate map-lights for the front for between the sun-visors, but the wiring is already being used for the sunroof and i CBA'd to splice into it
