View Full Version : TS wheel bearings hell...

Hey guys,

Thought I'd put this up just so nobody else goes through the same thing as me.

As some of you may have noticed, I've got ratmagna's (Mitch) old TS V6 manual. Doing the RWC myself at the moment.

So I needed new wheel bearings for the front. Hit up Repco, and they gave me two WBK3309 (one for each side) for $94 a pop. I thought "Awesome, now to drop the hub/knuckle assemblies and wheel bearing kits off at Pedders for them to press fit!" So my mate did that. Pedders called back and said that the bearings were far too small (by around 10mm!). After 45 minutes on the phone back and forth between Bursons, Repco and Pedders, turns out that Repco don't have the correct listing. Maybe they're records are screwed up between TR and TS, but they do not list the correct front wheel bearing assembly for a non-ABS TS V6 manual.

So! I got a friend to pick up the correct part number 4106 wheel bearings from Bursons, and drop them off at Pedders. Of course - Bursons only had one kit, so my mate had to go to another store to get the other. Somewhere along the line, one of the kits has had the incorrect bearing inserted into it!! Initailly, the wrong kits had and an external diameter of 75mm - the correct ones were 84mm. But the second batch of wheel bearings had their own problems! One kit was perfect, the other had a depth of 40mm - which is too much by only 1mm!!!

For those that ever need to replace their front wheel bearings on a '95 TS V6 manual non-ABS Executive - use Bursons part number 4106, with dimensions 84mm (external), 44.4 (internal), and 39mm (depth).

slash rant!

Cheers, Tim

PS: Mitsu don't stock them. :doubt:

Apparently not. I went down to Frankston Mitsubishi, and they spent 10 minutes trying to get a price for me. Ended up saying they "don't stock them".

I didn't bother asking whether that meant Mitsu don't manufacture tham anymore, or that I should actually ask for a complete hub/knuckle assembly.

unlucky man

i believe that the hub sizes for the 2.6l and 3.0l TR and TS are different sizes.

correct me if i am wrong.. but someone told me that a while back (can't remember who)

it has something to do with the weight and braking requirement or some crap... cant remember.

but when you are ordering parts from any parts place, rule of thumb is always always give them the dimensions unless you really know what they have given you.

I use south coast auto spares in wollongong and haven't had much trouble with them,,,

i have done 270'000 and still haven't needed to do my bearings... they are perfect

btw who told you you needed bearings??

Yup, the 4cyl has the smaller bearing with exception to the TR Elite, this has the larger brakes and shafts.

These are a pain in the butt to be honest, the V6 ones are the same as the Verada ones

changing brake apparatus wont effect the bearings will it?
ie twin pots with V6 rotors?

I'm up to 330,000Km now, guess its getting a bit old now! :P

I'm a former Mitsubishi mechanic, so I'm doing to RWC myself. needed front wheel bearings and ball joints. I'll be using it to tow my VL around a bit, so I want the steering and suspension 110%.

Tell me about it. I haven't heard back from Pedders today, so I guess everything is sweet. He (Repco) said the only different ones he stocked were for the Elite models, but its only an Exec. I figured the only difference could be bewteen ABS and non-ABS, but meh. Go figure.

Its a sweet car hey! its the only car I've purchased in the presence of my parents, and my Dad was very impressed. I just love the options you get as standard - power steering, air conditioning (fridge anyone!?), central locking, power mirrors, tow kit. And everything works (once I got into it lol )! I think I may have got it up around the 130 at some point....but lets not talk about that. :gtfo:

No the hubs are the same externally, you can change the rotors and calipers no worries.

I would also recommend that you do the lower control arm from the v6, the handling is noticable

Do you mean fit a V6 lower control arm? It is a V6, so it already has them. :p

But aside from getting the wheel bearings replaced, I'm also getting the lower control arm ball joints replaced, and replacing the tie rod ends (I sort of killed one... ).

And theyt're ready to be picked up! :bowrofl:
