At first I was wondering why you'd want a K&N oil filter, then I saw the nut welded to the top of the filter, that's awesome!

That is an awesome idea!!! I get sick of skinning my knuckles undoing oil filters stupid mechanics have done up waaay to tight!

Are the K&N oil filters reusable (i.e. cleanable) or not? What sort of price do they run at?

Edit: Just found on eBay for $21... is that a reasonable price? Is over double the Mitsi factory price ($10)... is it really worth it?

I can only find one on eBay and its $21 + $7 shipping, so $28 all up...

Maybe we can organise a group buy with someone for an oil & air together at a good price.

I'd be interested... but does anyone know if they are reusable? Or throw away item like the factory one?

off course they're NOT reusable... they're OIL filters. what are you going to clean them out with?

so for $28 you get a filter with a nut on it

I'll stick to the $12 Ryco filter thanks.

cheers,

:stoopid: :stoopid: kinda a waste of money, according to the K&N site, its built tougher, so unless your doing a 24hr enducence races, they are a bit of an overkill. I think a good quality filter like the RYCO is a good option.
and there is a special tool used for undoing standard oil filters, i got one, but never use it much.
Mabey cuz its K&N you get like fully 20RWKW's

never had to use a filter strap on my cars. They just undo by hand. But then again, i am super strong.

K & N oil filter would only be for wank factor anyway. The only time i could see it being beneficial is if you are doing track days and such. But you can change the oil and a ryco filter afterwards for the same $28, or there abouts.

Thanks, that's what I was trying to find out, as I wasn't prepared to pay $28 just because it had a nut on the top. I don't need super super filtration for the magna, its not a Lambo!

Yeah the nut is just a gimmick, cool but i'd still go a Valvoline/Ryco :P

With all filters - you get what you pay for as far as the quality of the innards goes. Anyways, if anyone wants one from a local seller - this is the place:

Please note the listing is a bit awry - the HP-1010 is also for the 3rd gen V6 Magna and even the last gen 2.4 Lancers

some confusion here, I run a HP 1010 K&N oil filter on my CE2 Lancer and the part numbers for a Mitsi filter for the Lancer and The 3.5 Magna are different, Could the HP 1010 fit a Magna as well as a Lancer?

Yes it does - the HP 1010 is a Lancer fitment AND a V6 3rd gen Magna fitment and yes the two Mitsu parts are slightly different in appearance but the HPO 1010 covers both applications. Later Lancers (CH CG CY CZ) use the HP 1008
