OK, installed my iDA-X100 but the supplied surround doesn't fit, the dash surround gets in the way. The dash surround matched to my old JVC headunit did fit, but that sat a little further proud of the dash. Is the best option to file the back of the headunit surround down so the back edge doesn't get in the way?

(did a search, didn't find any answers obviously, so if anyone knew what to search for, all ears).

Thanks!

my alpine surround sits on perfect
you just gotta make the deck sit forward alittle more

I've got a JVC headunit and my surround didn't fit either, my solution was to file down the outside edges and glued it in carefully and made it sit nearly flush.

I did this with my headunit and it works a treat....

First work how far you need the headunit to come out (say 5mm).
Now, obviously you have multiple places in the side of the headunit that allow you to bolt the aftermarket headunit into the standard side mounting brackets.

Now, my solution was to drill new holes in the side mounting plates that will line up with the holes on the headunit but 5mm forward than the normal alignment.

Keep in mind, trying to line it up with the same holes used initially is not a good idea, because u may end up drilling new holes too close to current holes - so pick another set of holes on the headunit to work with.

I've added a pic that indicates what i mean. Marked with a "yellow dot" is where to drill to mount the headunit about 5mm forward. Mind you, the picture I've used is just a random example i found on the net - our brackets are much larger and have more room for new drilled holes.

If a deck is mounted properly in the factory brackets the surround wont fit as its a flush fit.

I have seen other companys who cradle mount the decks in magnas  but then you can have the surround... it just looks like **** and is alot easier to steal

Thats what I did, angle grinder the plastic it's much faster.

I got mine installed at Strathfield and my surround fits nicely, although it does seem to stick out a lot.

Got me worried about the 'easy to steal' line!
