i have a rather deep scratch on the interior of the front driver side window. Do you guys think it is repairable? is it ok to put tint over the scratch?
Most tint places wont do it as it will cause an air bubble. This way they cant guarantee the work.
A majority of Windscreen places should beable to fix it though.

if i were to get one from the wrecker but bring it to the tinters, should they charge me for putting the new glass on as they would also need to take the windows out to tint?
anyway, i got a quote from instant windscreens. $275 for the darkest legal metallic tint and another $25 off if i bring the voucher from their website.
i heard somewhere we aren't allowed to tint the front windscreen. is it true?

Plenty of windscreen places will do it, but everyone I spoke to that had it done that way had bubbles/peeling. :(
Just had mine done at Tint-a-car. F1 tint. 8) Looks awesome, 25 year guarantee. Cost $395 but they do have 3 or 4 cheaper alternatives.
That's all they do, tint windows. Go to an expert.
Front windscreen tint (apart from top bit) is not kosher with Mr. Plod. Nor is Limo tint.

Has anybody had experience with Instant Windscreens window tinting? when I spoke to someone there once, they claim to use the same films as tint a car but were a lot cheaper. Considering getting mine done in near future and obviously not spending more than necessary but did want a good job too.

yer watch out with them, cos i had mine done 5weeks ago and they mucked up every window except one, they cut the back rubbers, didnt put my door trim back probaly, scrached my back tint, there was bits behind the tint, bubble etc. So monday i took it back to get redone and then come back and the end of the day with only 2 windows fixed  and he made a lame excuse that the qualified dudes on holidays and ill have to w8 to he gets back. and i had the trainers there. i was never told this when it went in and they said that they will replace all of them on monday. So ive had enough and im takin it to another instants windscreen and putting a complant in bout the other place and get them to fix my tint

Sometimes the more "professional" people have no idea what they're doing. They hire any old tinter off the street and slap him in their workshop. It takes a lot of skill to learn to tint a car properly.
As far as the scratch goes, you can tint over it but it will make it a little more obvious than it is now.
We have tinted over scratches before and it's not much of an issue. The issue is that whatever dirt is on your door trim rubber is probably going to do the same damage to the tint eventually. With older cars i usually clean the rubber before i replace the door trim to avoid any future damage to the film.
Now, there's a company that we continuously fix their screw ups (large gaps, purple film, exessive amounts of dirt, etc). but i can't think of their name. Tint-a-something........ cant think of it. But if you think of it, don't go there.
If you live in SA call Sunblock or Arnold's on (08) 8350 9711. If you live elsewhere, just look for your nearest SunGard dealer. Most of their film has a lifetime warranty, is more resistant to scratches and as far as i know they only hire highly experienced tinters.
