i was reading in lenda's n/a mods that the flex pipe on his pacemakers is restrictive and causing him to lose some power with his mods.
now im thinking of doing my full exhaust (properly) this time, looking at either pacemakers or RPW's not sure yet..
now what is wrong with the flex pipe, is it fine for a reasonably stock car?
i dont wanna have to touch my exhaust again.
i want it in and done right the first time.
my goal is to s/c my car to.

i believe hm headers actually comes with the bigger flex pipe you can get them sometimes under $500

i dunno, but $450 on ebay is pretty cheap.
and DIY doesn't look to hard either. if i can get under the car that is.
i might email them and try to get some more specs but. they aren't very specific.

I'm only from a 2nd gen point of view here but if you have a jack, stands etc, it should easily be do-able in a few hours.

i would give it a go anyway :P
now im gonna get full specs for hm, pacies, and rpw. and compare the 3.

isnt there some welding needed to be done like a new flange welded to the factory flex at the start of the stock system?

The factory flex pipe is 2.25", so pretty much negates having a bigger exhaust if you dont upsize it. The RPW "race spec" headers seem pricy, but once you factor in the fact that they come with a 2.5" flex pipe section, IMO they are not a bad price.
Otherwise, get pacies and have a good exhaust place make a flex pipe section for you, I'd guess the end cost would be much the same as getting the RPW gear. But IMo you might as well get the RPW "Race spec" anyway, since it comes as a complete easy-to-fit kit, and the primaries are slightly bigger, which doesn't hurt.

so are you saying that if i go and buy some RPW race spec headers that i could fit them myself?
no need to get an exhaust shop to fit them for me?
and whats the difference between the street spec and the race spec headers?

so if i got these race spec headers they will fix my problem with the flex pipe?

but you already have pacemakers dont you. rpw headers are $630,
you would be better off just doing the flex pipe on your pacemakers, which pretty make makes them race spec rpw headers. give or take a couple of mm here and there.

so where would be the best place to get a flex pipe and how much would it cost? exhaust shop?

How about the oxygen sensor guys.
Ill assume the RPW extractors flex pipe has the spot for the oxygen sensor to screw in to, but how about after market flex pipes.
Surely this must increase the cost somewhat ?

Im assuming this included every part of a header..
so now for the silly question, which bit is the flex pipe?

so why would the flex pipe be smaller then the rest of the piping?
thats just pointless

its got to do with backpressure for NA motor's and the scavanging effect, and btw there is nothing wrong with HM's only person ive ever heard of having issues is AndrewD but he was running a blower and they cracked because of the heat generated by it. But if your concerned with them cracking get them ceramic coated and will solve any possible issue with cracking.
Btw the ralliart headers are HM headers as well.

I sound like a recording when I talk extractors so I'll just find a blurb or 2 that I've already done and link that for ya all.

1.1/2" and short (<24") primaries = average low, ok mid, better top
1.1/2" and longer (>24") primaries = good low, best mid, ok top
1.5/8" and short (<24") primaries = average low, ok mid, best top
1.5/8" and longer (>24") primaries = ok low, best mid, good top
For FWD I would only be considering the Pacemakers for NA or Hurricanes for NA later FI.

Nothing wrong with the pacemakers and making big power, i can testify to that.
As for the flex joint, i bought a 3" by 10" one a couple of weeks ago (cos my old one was rooted), cost me a huge $70 plus my time to cut the old one out and weld the new one in (about 20mins) lol

I have Pacies in my Verada. Work well with the supercharger. I just had a custom 2.5" flex pipe made up at the time of install.

Don't know the cost as they were made up by G&D Performance and installed along with the supercharger.
