Hey everyone, i'm new here, anyway, does anyone know where i can get a new clutch for a 96 TE Magna? mine is slipping big time (too many burnouts :D ) I've been quoted $1200 for a brand new standard clutch and i thought that was pretty damn rediculous, you can buy a super mega extra super dooper heavy duty drag clutch for that, and i was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere i could get a new clutch for something less than $1200 in the hunter valley region (coffs harbour, Grafton) or on the gold coast or brisbane maybe because i don't want to pay $1200 i want to get an exhaust and rims!

i had the same problem about a month ago ... damn burnouts ... i had my clutch replaced with a slightly stronger one, but i don't know what it was as the mechanic found it, there is supposedly one on RPW for sale but i think the have to special make it... $1200 sounds about right from the quotes i got, despite paying $900 with upgraded clutch (gotta love stupid mechanics quoing 400 below :D :D :D )

sorry to hi-jack this thread, but my question is still related to clutches,

i also have a te, and was wondering if a "rattling" sound when the clutch is engaged in neutral(clutch pedal out) means that the clutch is on its way out ? or am i just paranoid ?

anyways, i have a few friends who said they have put clutches in magna's and will do it for me for a very low rate, so if possible mitsiman or anyone else, would u be able to give me an approximate pricing on a clutch kit ?

cheers all

that sound would be the thrust bearing would it not?

Also working on some new carbon steel billeted lightweight flywheels (I want one for my own magna) which we will be releasing soon for under $600.00.

Oooh that sounds enticing! :D
Keep us posted.

ok that niose is more than likley u thrust bearign o nthe york 2 engadge and disengadge clutch i have been lookin around drive in driv out is 1300 but it is so dear because we have a pull type clutch set up as u push the clutch in it pulls the pressure plate dose not push in (in other woard reverse a normal st pressure plate and we have one of these ) thats why they cost so much

Hey everyone,
joined up an hour ago, and it seems I have the same rattle benny_TE is getting from his clutch. Wondered if MITSIMAN or anyone else might have some idea where i could go for a STRONG clutch and lightened flywheel for my stock standard 96/97 FWD 3.0L Newman's Special Vehicle in Sydney CBD. Don't know anyone I'd trust.
Also, as an aside, if anyone has any info, or owns one, could they tell me what is 'sposed to be special about the NSV? Daily driver has become a daily droner so looking around for some go fast idea's before i start changing anything
Cheers[/b]

Hey Mitsiman,

Is there any point in swapping out to your sexier aftermarket clutch if the OE one is still in good nick? I mean, if you haven't

a) done lots of go-fast mods
b) had your original clutch crap itself

is it in any way worth going to the stronger one just for, say, the way it feels/works?

Just curious...

Same thing on all TE magna models 3.0 and 3.5 on. Any rattling sound is the clutch springs starting to collapse and they can go for that for 1 week or 1 year. But they will fail and eventually lsoe the clutch

I have had this noise occuring with my TE ever since i bought it, some 15 months and 25000kms ago

My clutch doesnt feel like it has worn too much at all since i first got my car either :?

Yeah, but I ignored a rattle for six months in a C4 torque converter off the back of my old cleveland 351 a couple of years ago and blew the trans to full lock up at 130kph. A bit reticent to ignore stuff like that now. Course, that was a ford, not a Magna.
