Ok heres my problem:
For a while now my window winder was really hard to wind up, took a lot of strength (for something you would think wouldn't)
Then today I got back in my car, went to wind down the windows and it stopped working after going down about 10-15cm
Took my door apart and from what my uncle said he recons one of the wires in there is broken but its too hard to see because its behind the metal bit
I don't know much about the mechanics of all this so thought I'd ask for opinions on what you guys think could be the problem and try find out how much im gonna be looking at forking out (yet again)
Cheers guys

My driver's side window does this a bit too, but only sometimes. Some times your almost using both hands to wind it and then others it's easy as anything. Any tips on this would be a benefit to me too.
Cheers.

yeah exactly the same
the old 2 hand winding while putting your body weight into it :P
gets a bit **** when you're driving trying to do the windows, times like that I wish I had power ones

Cheers mate, only problem is will I be able to reasonably easily be able to do the installation myself?
Is the regulator the thing i've seen in pictures with 2 barlike things and two wries? like a crooked square?
I seriously have like no idea with this sort of thing

Yeah man dont fret, Its easy as broo!
Go to the wreckers and take it out yourself so you know how to put it back in.
Ok, where your window winder is, that winding mechanism is held in by 3 bolts, easy to spot.
There is also 2 bolts at the top and bottom of the door, in the middle, which hold on the rails.
Before you do this, wind the window halfway down and you will see the glass itself held into the winding mechanism by 2 bolts, undo those 2 bolts and slide the glass out!
Its very easy mate, try it at the wreckers 1st just so your not afraid to damage something. It should be about a 25 minute job for a 1st timer

Definately interested, know how much postage would be to Perth?
Chances are I won't find one for $40 here, last quote I got here was $85 for a terrible condition centre console

Okay, guys, go to autobarn and buy some rubber silicone spray. My bet is it's the plastic cable holders that are stuffed due to the extreme force put upon them spray your window rubers with the lubricant, wind up down up down then spray again and repeat until windows become silky smooth. I can assure you that with a new one fitted, it'll be just as hard and with time the "new" one will break also...

As I mentioned in another window problem thread, you should regularly spray silicon lube
into the window channels on the doors to help the glass glide up and down easier.
Prolonged winding with hard to glide glass will eventually damage the winding mechanism,
that includes electric motors on electric windows.

Just go to KMart and ask for silicon spray lub. It comes in aerosol cans. Make sure you get
ones with straw nozzle attachment so that you can direct the spray where you want similar
to the WD40 can pictured.

WD40 was an example of a spray nozzle if you read carefully not a recommendation

My windows are fine at the moment but i had this problem on my old car, im guessing that prevention is better than cure? It would be worth doing this now before anything happens?

Are you sure the windows are the only reason you keep spray lube in the car?

And once again a thread which began innocently has gone dramatically down hill, lol.
