hey guys
this isnt for my car but my brothers car
his got a FTO and we replaced the power steering belt today because the old one shredded
now after it being on the car for a few hours the same thing has happened again
we couldnt find anything for the belt to rub on and it was tensioned right
so does anyone know why it's doing this??
would it of been a fault in the new belt?
any info would be great
cheers rob :)

Thats strange as..
One thing ill mention, has the power steering pump been recently fitted or changed? I know on my car the stupid mechanic forgot one of the bolts holding teh bracket in, meant the pulley was 1mm out of alignment and just shredded belts

i dont see how that thread is any help.. it just says a sqeaky belt means its loose..

We all know that anyway...

The above issue is about a belt snapping that is tensioned right.

From the quoted thread....

The aircon compressor and power steering pump are run by the same belt, the alternator by a separate belt. If you have a look under the bonnet, the belts are on the left side of the motor, fairly low down in the engine bay. If they still look shiny and clean, it's a fair bet that the belt is undertensioned.

and

There is a tensioner pully that will adjust the tension of the belt, it's pretty common for a new belt to stretch out a bit.

Who says the belt has been tensioned correctly ??? This is the most common outcome of incorrectly fitted and tensioned belts. It needs to be rechecked.

I think Johnnyred is trying to say that, just because someone says it was "tensioned right" doesn't necessarily make it so.

just to give you guys abit more info
after the belt had shredded it has some how turned itself inside out
also found some wires had been torn and looked to have been caught in the pulley
another thing is that the A/C compressor might be broken
