had my cooling system repaired (told him to fix the source of the leak, which was isolated to the thermostat area), and do a coolant flush. he had this done very quickly (within about half an hour-45mins i received the phone call saying it was done).
when i got there he said it was $155, included the flush, new hoses (which he said was the source of the leak), and he said he thoroughly inspected the thermo housing to ensure no leaks.. so i thought great and handed over the cash.
today when i was changing plugs etc to prepare for a 2000km trip on saturday, i checked the coolant and discovered that it was 100% empty. so i filled it with distilled and made a quick trek down to supercheap to make a better fix until i took it back to the radiator people tomorrow, by the time i got there, steam was everywhere. i then took it around the corner to my mums house and had to leave it there.
now the steam was pouring from the exact source that the original (very minor) leak was coming from which he said he inspected and repaired. spoke to him on the phone and put simple, he was a total prick to me. crapping on about how all he did was service it, and he isnt selling me a new car or anything.. not to mention the nice dent my car received while it was there that they totally denied also.
now the funny thing is, he reckons he pressure tested it after he put the new coolant in, and it showed no leaks, but when i got there to pick up the car, he was only just finishing actually putting the new coolant into the system, then handed me the keys right away. I call BS on his pressure test.
Tomorrow im going in to sort it out, and all I am willing to pay for is the thermo housing + thermo that i originally would have had to pay for anyway, but imo, no way should i have to pay for the labor and the coolant lost, which i have already dished out for. Does anyone know the rough cost on a thermo housing in case he trys to trick me into paying extra and says thats what the parts are worth? Helpfully all goes well with this bastard, but judging on my success so far, its not looking too hopeful.
Anyones thoughts on the matter?
