yeah i know, thats a huge reason why i want to. but its shocking on gas and i man shocking. drove 120km on the highway used half a tank (60L tank)

08-08-2008, 12:46 PM
yeah you might get 2k for it if you're lucky probs :(
that seems to be the max price I ever see them selling for and rust is a big downfall, but hen the wheels r a plus. might get a bi more if you sell the car with original wheels and sell the mags seperately.
imo the cars are worth more than that but unluckily magnas just have a ****house resale.
good luck with it all. imo keep the magna as mitsu>>>>>>ford haha

$5000 + whatever you sell the Magna for doesn't seem to be a good deal for a EL.
Is your mom trying to rip you off?

First gens dont go for much these days.
You'd be very lucky to see 1500 ............... I get good ones for around $300
They're addictive damn things though so ya neva know. :D
$5k is pretty high for an EL, it would need to be very low mileage for that.
I can get em for 2500 or so easily.

Mate its a GLI, Its like a GLX magna, bottom of the barrel specs wise, Would not be worth more then $4K
If you are keen though, Check out the local papers etc for some EL's. I think they are great cars personally and if time ever came where I needed another car it would be an EL hands down.
But $5K for a GLI, Wouldn't bother mate

fair enough but i still would need to sell mine (which i would give to her) then pay the rest off over time, which is the good thing, better car.. paying it off over a LONG time lol

Sell your anyway!
If you can get $1500 for it, which you most likely SHOULD, Put another $1500 towards something else (Probably a bit more for RWC etc) and You'll have a better specced EL and you'll have a choice too, Give it some thought..sometimes buying off the folks is a smart move sometimes not so smart, depends what car etc..

the thing is im not working at the moment and im running low on savings lol so i wont be able to buy somehting else for a while.
buying off mum would be good cause i know the transmission get serviced as regually as the engine so its all working well. plus compared to my car it pulls like a jet

Yeah it would with 150kwish compared to like 80kwish..
Have you done the maths, like when you get a job you can probably save some money up and in the end buy something better, just because the oppurtunity has come up now doesnt mean you SHOULD take it but try and do some maths and figure out how long it would take you to pay back..
Personally, with no job, I would just keep my car for the time being. Yeah you fork out a few extra bucks for petrol but in the end you don't have to pay back $4K just for the right..

yeah fair enough..
she lent me the money for my first cat (88 astra) which i wrapped around a pole $2500
then she lent me the money for the magna $2250
probably shouldnt borrow the money off her again. not that i would have to pay it off for ages

Yeah to a EL Falcon..
Look at the end of the day you can never pay to much for a good car, you can always pay to much for a bad car..:P
All the people giving you advise arent aways right. after all it is there personal advise..
I dont think buying your mums car is a bad idea. The upsides is you know the history and anything that is wrong with it so no hidden suprises. also you are on a payback scheme that has no interest or minimum monthly repayments..
So if you went out there and found a clean EL private for $4000 with duel fuel and than borrowed the cash to pay for it. lets say the buyer doesnt tell you about the transmission thats about to let go and all the water leaks when it rains that even the best experts cant pick on inspection. then you find out it was stolen and recovered after it was used in a robbery and also had the plates stolen and returned. you will get pulled over and hassled by the cops because the playes show as previous stolen, you fix all the broken bits, pay some interest and even get finance without a job you will be about $10k out of pocket..
My Personal Advice is 5K on those condition and for a car that you know isnt as bad as every is making out. after all these people that are giving you advise in the above threads are provessional car buyers & sellers and know what the market is doing and how to pick a good or bad car.
At the end of the day you have to make the choice on whats best for you and i think its not bad. LPG will cut your petrol bill in half..:)
Goodluck. :)

Stuff the EL. I have driven one not that great. Has a bad vibrating sound when put under load. Has a little bit more power than my current magna not that much more. It was comfortable to drive but the magna is better. It's up to you. If you get $1500 or more for your car then do it but if not then keep it. Its worth more to keep now.
Goodluck

You obviously drove a lemon. Our EL has 306K on it (straight petrol  ) and runs as smooth as anything and pulls a decent skid :shifty:
EGO totally respect your point of view there aswell, Just my thoughts being since he was out of a job it would be something he WANTS not NEEDS (after all the magna is still running)
But hey man all your choice. remember you can get those RAC checks on the cars which let you know whats wrong with it etc.

iv spent a fair whack of money on my car. but iv never had any problems that i hadnt caused myself, except rust.
iv thought about getting a new car quite a few times, but ive decided to stick with the first gen for a few reasons.
- the car runs great and i can afford to keep it going (i dont need a new one)
- if i got a more expensive car i would need full comprehensive insurance which is more expensive until your 25.
- if i decided against the full comprehensive and did crash the car, i would be alot more out of pocket than if i crashed the tp.
- i dont need a new car, iv alredy got one that i can rely on.
the only thing i dislike about my car, is the amount of guts it has, but i guess that could just be my car and not first gens in general.

thanks guys. yeah it is something i want and not need. but i want it cuz for one the magna is so gutless. well when you put ur foot down it moves (keeps up with r31's) but when you put the foot down in the el it pulls so much better. plus if i wanted my magna to go that hard i'd need to spend HEAPS of money on it (which i dont have) then when i do sell it i wont get any of it back. ive already spent over 3 grand on it and ill get back what 1thousand if im lucky....

EL is pretty much an AU, same engine, gearbox, etc.
They're nice cars, just very underated. When people think Falcon ****box usually comes to mind. If it's a good car and will keep you going for a few years, then I don't see why not.
Plus, they absolutely hammer, and sound awesome when they shift into first at 55k's on full throttle.
